Opinion: Do You Still Give out Your Trust?

Who do you trust?

If you ask me this question, I would reel out a lot of secrets to you and leave you to deduce the answer yourself. I actually find it hard to trust people myself; I mean my feelings or even my things, my integrity and whatever concerns me. If I trust you, it has to be that you have earned it based on what you have done or been through and I know what you are capable of doing. However, I hear some trust people based on their confessions; I mean what they say they are capable of doing. Well, mine is not so. For me to trust you, I must have my evidence. Don’t judge me, it’s my opinion.

Some people say I am a difficult person and that I will find it hard to get in a relationship because I find it hard to trust people. However, my belief is that relationships are built on trust and that any relationship void of trust in the participants will crumble.

My attitude towards trust is as a result of my past experience. I have trusted people with my deepest thoughts, thoughts that made me cry, thoughts that make me feel down casted. I have trusted people and really, a trial has convinced me.

I had a hard time in my third year in school; things were so bad that money was a very scarce commodity. It was the time Nigeria was going through a serious economic recession with huge debts of school fees to pay. I could tell no one of the difficulties I was going through. I tried a lot of things I thought could help but all was futile with. Then, I found someone I could call a friend. He claimed to have been through my predicament while he was in school. His own experience was even worse than mine that I began pitying. Then and there did I conclude that I was better off than some people while some are better than me; this is the Irony of life.

My so called friend has been a leader for years and also stood in the position of counseling young undergraduate students while he was in school. He was highly revered and recommended to be capable of holding any leadership post. All these summed up the bases for my judgment that he could be trusted. The fact that he had experienced my present situation added to my trust in him.

I reeled out my problems to him with the hope that I could lean on him for advice. I told him of the difficulties I had only for Him to spill out my secrets in public. He was the first to accuse me of my inabilities which was due to my financial in capabilities. I had little to finance my daily needs and was left with little to fund other needs and he made me a scapegoat publicly. I felt betrayed and disappointed. I looked into his eyes and all I could see was betrayal. I could not say anything against him because he already knew my secrets to the marrow. I blamed myself for telling him too much about me. I could not say anything for I had broken down my entire defence with my hands.

Trust, an abstract which you develop in someone or something based on an evidence of what they have done or is capable of doing is built overtime.
My trust in people has been breached overtime that giving it out to people require a lot of thinking. Someone once told me that I might find it hard to fall in love, well I don't know yet but we all at one time in our lives have experienced the same ordeal in different ways.

However, experience they say is the best teacher but the best and more profitable way to learn is from the experience of other people who have attained certain level of maturity. It is better to always give people an element of doubt that they could breach your trust in them some day so that when they do, you would not have an heart break that could totally mar you but at least a heart that will be amendable………………..my opinion, what do you think?

Opinion: Whose Fault is Suicide?

Max opens the bottle of sniper before him. He wants to make this quick before the arrival of Dave, his roommate who had bought a bottle of Sniper to kill insects such as the mosquitoes and the bedbugs that had ravaged the room lately. He had carefully hidden it under his mattress for safety, but Max saw it.

As Max bends the bottle and lifts his mouth towards its direction, Dave comes knocking at the door violently. He had sensed some strange feelings within him and was moved to check back. He looks through some spaces between the louvres and sights Max attempting suicide. Furiously, he finds a huge stone nearby and breaks the door wide open. He quickly hijacks the deadly content from Max who suddenly breaks down in tears.

Max just suffered a heart break in the past week. He still finds it difficult to believe that Michelle could leave him just like that all because he couldn't meet all her needs. As if that isn't enough, his final year results was released just three days after the breakup and he was just an inch below his desired grade. For him, the world had come to an end! And life will no longer be rosy.
The reasons behind a teen's suicide or attempted can be complex.

Young people with mental health problems such as ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, BIPOLAR DISORDER stand at higher risk for suicidal thoughts. Several factors contribute to suicidal thoughts. Such as institutional factors, parental laxity and disappointment from friends and acquaintances but I posit that the ONLY person who is to blame for teen suicide is the kid who commits it.

Suicide/suicidal thoughts can be viewed as an act of selfishness and self - centeredness. Can you imagine how much your friends and parents look up to you and enjoy your company? Hence, you make them sad because you think only about yourself
WATCH OUT! Help someone out there who exhibits suicidal symptoms such as isolation, negative speeches and expressions about life, lack of concentration, suspiciously giving out most treasured things, write-ups on guilt and sad experiences.

Engage a victim in a calm and non-accusatory communication, express loving concern and embrace them often while instilling the hope for a brighter future.

Influence is not a Function of the Position You Occupy- Daniel Olubunmi

Daniel Olubunmi, a Physiotherapist and Youth Leadership Model shares his views on youths, leadership and the future. Join us as we Walk The Talk with him in this Interview.

Daniel Olubunmi, NELOC Media

NNI: Can we meet you? (Personal, Education, Career wise and everything else you want us to know)

Guest: I'm Daniel Olubunmi, a graduate of Physiotherapy from the College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. I'm the first child of 3 children and hail from Modakeke, Ife East Area Local Government, Osun State. I finished my both primary and secondary education at the Royal Nursery & Primary School and Royal Comprehensive High School, Modakeke, Osun State, respectively. I'm a believer, a Multi-Instrumentalist, a student leader on  Campus, a Corporate Compere and a Public Speaker with major focus on Youth inclusion in politics and leadership, Social media and Entrepreneurship. This is what I basically do, in conquering my locality.

NNI: What defines social development and impactful leadership for you?

Guest: Social development is basically anything that moves the society forward, anything that contributes to the society. My definition of impactful leadership is leadership where one makes impacts, influence lives positively, makes disciples and have people go on to do very amazing things.

NNI: Is leadership a mix of different skills? What exactly makes up complete leadership?

Guest: Yes, leadership is a mix of different skills. There are a lot of skills that come together to make a good leader, and so along the way, we just constantly learn different things, we keep on adding different things to it. For example, empathy, you know, being able to empathize with people, and listen, you have to be able to learn how to listen. Leaders listen. Another example is reading - leaders read. You have to develop yourself. Leaders put others first. Leaders are firm, you have to learn how to be affirmative and not mean, at the same time. Leaders are good decision makers. So there are so many skills that come together to make a good leader. So it's just something we keep on layering on because it's not one thing that makes a leader, a couple of things come together to make good leader.
Daniel Olubunmi

NNI: It is usually said that a leader must be a follower. How realistic is this?

Guest: When we talk about, a leader being a follower, the first thing I think in this context is, leadership is about the "followers", about  the people that follow you. As a leader, you must make these people your priority, you must listen to their needs. In that way, you follow them. You must make them the centre. That way, you're following the people that you lead. But in another context, when you talk about leaders being followers, it also means, as a leader, you have to have someone that's leading you as well, someone you're mentored by or someone you're constantly learning from. That way, you're a follower. Sometimes, you learn how to be a good leader, by learning how to follow.

NNI: How have you managed leadership and influence?

Guest: Leadership is essentially influence, and influence is not a function of the position you occupy, but a function of the leadership and sound counsel you proffer. Leadership is who you are before what you do.

So leadership is really the ability to influence other people. In this sense, it is to influence other people to do positive things. The most important part of leadership is influence, because if you're not influencing anybody, nobody is going to follow you. If you do not influence anybody, you're not making any impact. These two, cannot be separated.

NNI: By global trends, there is a call for youths to take leadership. How best can a youth position himself to be worthy of leadership?

Guest: A young person can position himself to be a leader by deciding to be a valuable person. The first thing is working on yourself. The first step is YOU. I work on myself, I want to be a "young leader" and position myself as a person of value, so I'm giving value to people in my community. It's just as if I'm giving value to the people that are on my WhatsApp contact list. So basically, developing yourself, and in too little ways that you can contribute. People think leadership is always about being in the front, maybe leadership is as simple as, Ohhh, some people are having a conference, and I want to volunteer to be an Usher, that is leadership. That is positioning yourself in the community to be worthy of leadership.

NNI: What is the measure of good leadership? Do you think social impact  can be measured?

Guest: It can be measured. There are some things you can't exactly measure, but impact will always be seen, like that's the thing, impact will always show, it'll be obvious. You can't have impacts, and it's invisible. So the metric for measuring it may differ, but impact is a measurable stuff, it's something you can see, something tangible. Not like, ohh this is the road I built, sometimes, it is the influence in people lives.

Guest: Yes, we're making a lot of progress on Global youth development and growth. A lot of young people are becoming more aware, and I think awareness is the first step, and that is growth, especially in Nigeria, across Africa and across the world. So I think that's good, even out of the progress, young people are speaking out, young people are taking actions, young people are leading.

NNI: From your recent social media activities, it shows how well you have fused your personal brand into your love for promising leadership. How did you achieve this?
Guest: Well, there's a need to educate the people coming behind us, it's key. A lot of young people wants to be a leader, but they don't know how to achieve this, they basically don't know where to start from, and some are afraid of the unknown, while others are over-ambitious. So I've been able to gather enough contents on student leadership from my experiences as a student leader, and also pointers from friends in their different fields, tailoring it to meet the needs and curiosities of the younger ones. This is why I have embarked on a campaign for sustainable leadership via my social media platforms, to educate this current generation, and make Nigeria a better place to live.

NNI: What is your advice to fellow young individuals?
Guest: To fellow young individuals, leadership is a process, one step at a time, you have all the time to develop yourself and add value to yourself, this way, you'll stay relevant. Most importantly, build your character and strive to have a strong conviction. Money, position or office could influence and establish relationships, but it's not enough to sustain it. Only a ripe character can.

Ask for help, if there need be, and extend help to the next person, with whatever you have in your capacity, volunteer for an event, meet new people and make friends, it'll help build a network of people, of like minds, around you. Finally, be deliberate, be conscious and be intentional about leadership.

NNI: What should we expect from you in the near future? Any intentions to go into full time politics? Any big plans?
Guest: Full-time politics? (Laughs) I cannot categorically say yet. This is just the starting point. Definitely, there are plans, but then, man plans, God decides! The difference will tell in matter of few years to come. Basically, the major goal is to be fruitful and multiply, into building the Nigeria of our dreams, and subsequently, making impacts throughout the Continent of Africa.

Thank you very much for your time sir.

How Does NYSC pick Date of Birth for Mobilisation?

The NYSC will never initially need to use the date of birth written on your WAEC, NECO, GCE, or NABTEB to mobilize you for the service. In the same vein, the corps won't use the date of birth that will be sent by your school, for the senate list, especially if it differs from what they truly want.```

You ask me what date of birth will NYSC use then?*

What date of birth does NYSC want?*

The corps originally uses JAMB dates of birth of all prospective corp members for the purpose of mobilization. Yes, NYSC collects a few data from JAMB, through the JAMB registration number used while filling your mobilization form online. Among these data is the date of birth.```

Whereas, this JAMB date of birth you will meet on the NYSC portal/dashboard will not be made editable. You won't be able to change or manipulate it to your goal.```

And if you compare this date of birth with the one on your JAMB result or JAMB regularization slip, it should be the same._

It doesn't matter if the date of birth tallies with the one on WAEC or school documents. If those are different the corp only deals with the JAMB's.```

This is why candidates who aim to serve should be mindful of their dates of birth. In fact, most candidates use regularization to correct/manipulate their possible over-age at the ends of their studies.```

*In other words, you can correct the JAMB date of birth mistakes by replacing them with the one on your WAEC result.*

Of course, this may not be working for candidates with NECO and NABTEB results. I'm, for now, more convinced that this method works well and is officially acceptable for candidates using WAEC or WAEC GCE results (can be done during online registration)``` .

Luckily, it doesn't matter if that result was the one you used for your admission or not. What matters is that the result must belong to you and should have the dates of birth you want.

NOTE: Foreign graduate should ignore the above information, your own Dob will be pick from your Olevel, or International passport uploaded ..
