OAU Team Leaves Golden Benchmark at Bowen University

After relentless hours of preparation and hard work, students of the Obafemi Awolowo University proceeded to Bowen University for its Inter University Moot and Mock Competition. The following schools dotted the Bowen University landscape in Iwo: University of Ibadan, Bowen University, Osun State University and Obafemi Awolowo University.

At the Moot stage which was the qualifying stage to the final, Team OAU faced Bowen University as Respondents. Representing the Obafemi Awolowo University were Adefarati Mosunmola (300 level) and Adewunmi Victor (300 level).

Obafemi Awolowo University emerging as the best the overall at the moot stage, while Osun State University came thus both teams proceeded to the finals.
Oyewale Faith and Agboola Elijah represented Obafemi Awolowo University as counsels while Olajide Mary and Oseni Tawakalt were witnesses at the finals, the Mock.

In delivering its judgement, after the enthralling and brilliant final address by the highly cerebral and fire cracking counsels of OAU team, the judge resolved all three issues in favour of the prosecution (Team OAU). OAU emerged as winner of the competition. Equally Oyewale Faith emerged as the best counsel!

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is a federal government-owned University located in Ile-Ife, Osun state. The University is known for its excellence and its ability to produce the best year in year out. Over the years, there have been notable individuals who have once been students of this prestigious school who are now leading the forefront in different sectors of the country.

Today, we shall be having a look at ten popular celebrities in the entertainment industry who have once passed through the learning walls of this great university.

1. Fireboy DML

A hot cake in the industry. Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter, signed to YBNL Nation, a record label founded by Nigerian rapper, Olamide. He was born on the 5th of February, 1996. Fireboy came into the limelight through his popular song, "Jealous" which was released in 2018. He developed his interest in music from childhood as he was also part of the choir in the church which he grew up. Fireboy obtained his degree from Obafemi Awolowo University having studied English. He won the Most Promising Act of the Year at City People Music Awards in 2019. His album "Apollo" also won the Album of the Year and the Best Pop Album at the 2020 Headies. His recent hit song "Peru" also got nominated for Outstanding International Song at the 2021 NAACP Image Awards.

2. Bukunmi Oluwashina

Bukunmi Oluwashina is a fast-rising Nigerian actress, movie producer, singer, musician, playwright and model. She is a Native of Oke Imesi, Ekiti State. She also graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University, where she studied Theatre Arts. She also revealed in one of her interviews of how she had to combine acting with her career while in school. Her debut movie, "Ayomi" was produced during her final year in school. Bukunmi is a versatile and multi talented figure widely known in Nigeria. She came into the limelight right after the production of the mind-blowing movie titled Ayomi. She has won many awards and has got a number if nominations, including the 2015 Africa Magic Viewer's Choice Awards in the Best Indigenous Movie (Yoruba) category, the Best of Nollywood Awards (BON Awards), MAYA Awards and ACI Awards.

3. Aderounmu Adejumoke

Adejumoke Aderounmu is a Nigerian actress, born in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Adejumoke gained prominence through the role she played in the popular Nollywood TV series, Jenifa’s Diary as Esther. She also acted in the start studded Nollywood’s Box Office hit movie, Alakada 2 as Jummy Adams. She had her Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations at OAU. She was also certified in Film making and acting by La CineFarique in Lyon, France in 2017.

4. Woli Arole

Bayegun Oluwatoyin, popularly known as Woli Arole, is not only a comedian but also an actor and a movie producer. Woli Arole is a psychology graduate of OAU. He also obtained a degree in filmmaking in 2020 from the Met Film School in the UK. He has featured in star studded movies like "The call" and "Alakada Reloaded". He also appeared in "Higi Haga" and the series, "Skinny Girl in Transit".

5. Foluke Daramola

Foluke Daramola Salako is a Nigerian actress, movie director and producer born on February 15, 1978. Foluke was born to a family from Ekiti State. She obtained a bachelor's degree in International Relations from Obafemi Awolowo University. Foluke joined the Nigerian movie industry in 1998 with her debut in the TV series, "Palace". She is well known for her roles in movies such as: Above love, Durodola, Iyawo Mi, Fallen Angel, Official Romance and so on. Her marriage to Kayode Salako in 2013 is blessed with two children. 6. Clarion Chukwura

Chief Clara Nneka Oluwatoyin Folashade Chukwura, with the stage name, Clarion Chukwura was born on the 24th of July, 1964. She is a Nigerian actress and humanitarian. She began her acting career in 1980 but became popular when she featured in a soap opera titled "Mirror in the Sun". She studied Acting and Speech at the Department of Arts in Obafemi Awolowo University. She was the first Nigerian to win the Best Actress Category at the 1982 FESPACO film festival in Burkina Faso. 7. Blaqbonez

Emeka Akumefele, known by the stage name Blaqbonez, is a rapper signed to 100 crowns. He is a Computer Engineering graduate of OAU and is gradually dominating the rap world in the Nigerian music Industry. He was described by the New York Times as one of the new guards of Nigerian music. His controversial hit song, "Best Rapper in Africa (BRIA) put him in the limelight. Blaqbonez has received several nominations for talent in music, including the Headies Award for Best Rap Single and the City Peoples Music Award for Rap/Hip Hop Artiste of the Year. Blaqbonez’ name was included in Guardian Newspaper’s list of “top 10 artistes to watch out for in 2019”. He was also tagged alongside Teni as one of the Nigerian fine acts to watch out for by the New York Times.

8. MC Lively

Michael Sani Amanesi, popularly known as MC Lively is a famous comedian known for his rib-cracking skits and stand up comedy. MC Lively bagged a degree in Law from the Obafemi Awolowo University. His skit "Agidi" brought him fame in 2015. He has also featured in several movies, including "Fate of Alakada" and "Seven and a half date". He has also hosted several events. He won the City People Music Awards for Comedy Act of the Year in 2019.

9. Chinko Ekun

Oladipo Olamide Emmanuel, known professionally as Chinko Ekun, is a Nigerian rapper and songwriter. Chinko Ekun was born on September 13, 1993 into a family of three, where he is the second child. He is a native of Ikare, Ondo State. He graduated with a degree in Law from Obafemi Awolowo University. Chinko Ekun started developing passion for music at the age of seven and then picked interest in commercial and rap music during his first year in the university. His name "Chinko Ekun" was coined from two words, "Chinko", because he was told he looked like a Chinese during his time in the university and "Ekun", because it was his first official track. His song "Able God" won the Street Song of the Year at the City People Music in 2019 and he also won the the Best Street Hop Artiste at the Headies in 2019.

10. Femi Branch

David Babafemi Mauton Osunkoya, known as Femi Branch is a Nigerian actor, director and producer. He was born on the 14th of May, 1970 in Sagamu, Ogun State. He has been active in the entertainment industry since 1991 till present. He got admitted into Obafemi Awolowo University to study Religious Studies but later switched departments and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dramatic Arts. He began his career at OAU in 1991, the same year he featured in a Yoruba stage play titled Eniyan. His first appearance on television was in 2003 in an MTN group television commercial, titled "Dance with me". Femi Branch has appeared in over a hundred Nigerian films since then, with some of them being the ones produced and directed by him. He was nominated for the Best Actor in a Lead role-English at the Best of Nollywood Awards in 2018.

Born on February 14th, Oluwatimileyin Agbaje is a professional movie actor, comedian, influencer, entrepreneur, professional corporate event MC, business developer and digital marketer. He is a first class graduate of Law from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and holds a double first class degree from the Nigerian Law School, LL.B (Hons) B.L. (First Class).

Defying the odds for a living, Timi Agbaje is the convener of Man The Mic, a public speaking initiative established since January 2017. Man The Mic is an academy with a vision of igniting and sustaining sterling communication skills in young individuals.

In building up his profile as a seasoned humorous Master of Ceremony, Lawyer, Public Speaker and Media Entrepreneur, Timi had his secondary education at the Obafemi Awolowo University International School, Ile Ife, between 2005-2011. He then proceeded to the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, where he bagged his Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) between 2012 and 2017. He was called into the Nigeria bar in 2018, after graduating with a First Class Degree from the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus (BL).

Timi is passionate, goal driven and result oriented. During his time in the University, he was actively involved in several life impacting events, which helped him hone his skill in public speaking. As a Master of ceremonies, he has anchored several events for reputable organizations and well known brands. He has shared the same stage with reputable Nigerian artistes like Adekunle Gold, Olamide, Burna Boy, Wande Coal, Zlantan Ibile, Lil Kesh, MC Lively, and a host of others.

Timi is also the convener of Man The Mic, a workshop for individuals who have keen interest in and want to build a career in public speaking. Timi Agbaje took his trade to another level by leveraging on Instagram, a social media platform, where he performs comedy skits which is largely targeted to address social ills and vices. His YouTube channel, Timi Agbaje, is equally hilarious and likes fashion a lot.

Since April 2015, Timi Agbaje became the Chief Executive Officer and publisher of Seal Magazine. At the time, Seal Magazine started out as a campus based publication at his alma mater, Obafemi Awolowo University. He went on to lead as the Head of Operations at Applehead Multimedia, Nigeria, a contract between August 2019 to January 2020. As a lawyer, Timi Agbaje was a full time Associate at the law firm of Ukiri & Lijadu between November 2018 and May 2019

As a social entrepreneur, Timi Agbaje was a member of the Sickle Cell Aid Foundation and member of multiple social committees while as a student. He also took on numerous projects including the popular Ife Career Fair. As a result of his excellence, in honours and awards, Timileyin Agbaje won the Director General's Prize for First Class Degree Students at the Nigerian Law School. This was issued by Nigerian Law School in November 2018. He also won an Award of Academic Excellence from the Nigerian Law School. Building a thriving career, Timi Agbje currently resides in Lagos, Nigeria. In the October 2020 EndSARS protest which held in Lagos, Abuja and other pats of Nigeria, Timi Agbaje made the headlines and got to limelight as he was seen bathing publicly at the protest grounds in a solidarity campaign to end police brutality in the country. As an established content creator, Timi Agbaje has also collaborated with fellow content creators in the entertainment space with specific mentions to Debo Adedayo (Mr Macaroni), Kikie, MC Lively and a host of others.

Although orientation week maybe really hectic for you as you have to do various kind of registrations and familiarise yourselves with various facilities available at the University, LSS OAU Orientation Committee is here to provide you with all the support you need to make orientation week a successful and a memorable one. We give you the best orientation in the country!

Accordingly, on the commencement of LSS OAU orientation exercise, all part one law students of the Faculty of Law are hereby directed to resume early to settle down and subsequently bring the necessary documents to be submitted to the Faculty.

COMMENCEMENT OF LSS OAU FRESHERS' ORIENTATION

LSS OAU Freshers' Orientation is expected to commence from Monday, 1st of May, 2017. However, due to the fact that there is public holiday on that day, the commencement of the orientation exercise may have to be shifted to Tuesday, 2nd of May, 2017.

Fresh students are expected to submit FIVE (5) COPIES of the underlisted documents to the Faculty Secretary in their respective Faculties:

Under RESTRICTED ELECTIVE COURSES, they are required to simply choose ONE (1) among the listed courses.

Further, they must register these two SPECIAL ELECTIVE COURSES: LIB001 (Use of Library) and SER001 (Use of English). Finally, they may select TWO (2) other special elective courses to fill the remaining space for the maximum total of course units allowed to be registered.

It must be noted however that there is a sub-committee known as E-REGISTRATION under the Orientation Committee charged with the duty of assisting and giving proper guidance to Ifelaw freshers on how to register, together with the actual registration of their courses.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR LAW STUDENTS

The Legal Profession is an honourable profession and all who belong or aspire to it must exhibit that trait and strength of character. Good character is most crucial for admission to the Law School and subsequently to the Bar.

The Council of Legal Education, conscious of its responsibility for the Legal Education of persons seeking to become members of the Legal Profession, and in conjunction with the Body of Benchers, responsible for regulating the practice of the profession in Nigeria i.e. to train for the profession disciplined gentlemen of honour, approved a code of conduct for the information and compliance of Law Students who intend to seek admission into the Nigerian Law School, qualify for the Bar, and subsequently enrol as Legal Practitioners in Nigeria.

1.0 A Law Student must be honest and of good behaviour. He/She should be a responsible and reliable person.

2.0 DRESSING: All students must be well dressed at all times in Regulation Wear.

2.1 MALE: Dark suit, white shirt, black tie (not bow tie), white breast pocket handkerchief, black socks and black shoes (Sandals are not allowed).

During hot weather, male students may be permitted to wear white long sleeve shirts with black tie, black trousers (charcoal grey may be allowed) and black shoes to class.

2.2 FEMALE: Dark gown or dark suit, white blouse, black skirt covering the knees and black covered shoes. (Sandals are not allowed) There should be no embroidery and or trimmings of any type on the gown, suit or blouse; and only moderate jewellery should be worn – (No large dangling or coloured earrings, or bracelets are allowed). Also, glitters or colouring of any type in the hair is prohibited.

During hot weather, female students may be permitted to wear white translucent blouses (not tee-shirt), black skirts covering the knee (charcoal grey may be permitted) and black covered shoes to the class.

2.3 ALL Gowns and Skirts –

(a) Must be graceful, but not cling provocatively to the body;

(b) Must not be above the knee; and

2.4 ALL Blouses or Shirts –

(a) Must be graceful, but not cling provocatively to the body;

(b) Must not expose sensitive parts of the body i.e. it must not expose your cleavage, upper arm stomach and/or navel.

During his five years as student of the prestigious Faculty of Law, OAU and a year of selfless service as the President of the Law Students' Society, OAU, Ile-Ife (2014/2015 Session), he distinguished himself among his colleagues and other students of the university through his pleasant, enthusiastic and continuing high-quality performance. He was a valued member of the Society, and we can be justly proud of his immense contributions to the growth and development of our quintessential Society. Sequel to the provisions of Section 15(1) of the constitution of the Law Students Society, “the congress shall have the final say in all matters relating to the society in line with the provisions of the constitution” bearing in mind also the provisions of section 15(6) which provides that “all congressional decisions shall be by simple majority vote provided that at a time a quorum is formed in accordance with the constitution”.

The congress thus, after series of intellectual and constitutional fireworks, motions and counter motions hereby make the following congressional resolutions;

1. That for the progress and development of the society, the congress hereby approves the appointment of Mr. Okeke Christian as Chairman, Miss Clementina Uzogor as deputy chairman, and Mr. Tayo Opatayo as Secrertary of the 2017 law week.

2. That there shall be a Panel of Inquiry and investigation which shall be saddled with the responsibility of summoning any member of the society, inquiring and investigating the “controversial LSRC Conference” and shall within 7days submit its reports to the congress.

3. That the Audit committee shall audit the LSRC conference and submit copies of audit reports/ findings to the Ad hoc panel of inquiry and Investigation so as to aid the panel to carry out its investigations.

4 That the panel shall present all income, expenditure, and any other revelation incidental to the duty of the ad hoc committee alongside its recommendation for the consideration by the next congress of the society.

5.That congressman Afolabi Abass Kayode, Congressman Adebiyi Tolu, congressman Koye-Ladele Mofeyintoluwa, Congressman Fashoyin Adebiyi and Congressman Binzak shall serve as members of the panel of enquiry and determine the all the internal activities of the panel.

The Bloggers' Hub which held on the 10th of November, 2018 at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife had in presence, notable participants across faculties and departments of the Obafemi Awolowo University and its environs. The facilitators, Mr Farombi Oluwaseun and Mr. Cephas Oluwaseun were in high codes as they taught through the sessions with much skill.

Mr Farombi Seun, popularly known as Babafaros for his social media exploits and his affiliation with the largest and most widely read news agency on the Obafemi Awolowo University campus, OAUPEEPS discussed salient points on social media and how it links up to the Blogosphere. He exposed Bloggers to understanding the times for broadcast and social media sleep.

Mr. Cephas also discussed issues on digital marketing, Google Adsense and the basic monetization issues that bloggers face today.

The Bloggers Hub ended with an award ceremony for excellent bloggers who have paid their dues to the teeming audience that grace their blogs. The Awards followed a voting session online a few weeks back amongst other criteria for selection.
