FG Grants Provisional Licence to High-Flyers University, Ekiti

The Federal Government has granted High-Flyers University, Ikere-Ekiti, a provisional licence to commence operations as a Private University in Ekiti

The Federal Government of Nigeria has granted a provisional licence to High-Flyers University, Ikere-Ekiti, to commence operations as a private university in Ekiti State.


The licence was presented to the institution’s Proprietor, Dr. Busayo Ajayi, by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, in Abuja on Friday.

The certificate, dated June 29, 2026, was jointly signed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and the NUC Executive Secretary.

The approval followed the institution’s compliance with the NUC’s requirements for the establishment of a conventional private university.

High-Flyers University to commence with 15 programmes

According to details of the approval, High-Flyers University will commence academic activities with three faculties, 11 departments and 15 undergraduate programmes.

The programmes cover Allied Health Sciences, Science and Computing, as well as Social and Management Sciences.

Faculty of Allied Health Sciences

The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences will offer:
  • Nursing Science
  • Public Health
  • Physiotherapy
  • Medical Laboratory Science

Faculty of Science and Computing

Programmes under the Faculty of Science and Computing include:

* Computer Science
* Cyber Security
* Information Technology
* Software Engineering
* Physics with Electronics
* Science Laboratory Technology
* Microbiology

Faculty of Social and Management Sciences

The Faculty of Social and Management Sciences will offer:

* Accounting
* Business Administration
* Criminology and Security Studies
* International Relations

Proprietor speaks on new Ekiti university

Speaking after receiving the provisional licence, Ajayi commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating an enabling environment for private universities.

He said the institution would assemble world-class scholars to build a university capable of producing globally competitive graduates.

Ajayi also expressed the ambition of contributing to efforts to improve Nigeria’s position in global university rankings.

He reaffirmed High-Flyers University’s commitment to quality education, research and innovation, which he described as important to national development.

What the approval means for prospective students

The provisional licence brings High-Flyers University into Nigeria’s expanding private university landscape and sets the stage for the institution to begin academic activities in Ikere-Ekiti.

However, prospective students should await official announcements concerning admission forms, school fees, admission requirements, cut-off marks and the commencement date for academic activities.

Students and parents are also advised to verify information about the university’s approved programmes through official NUC and university channels before making admission or payment decisions.
