On behalf of the entire members of Law Students’ Society, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (LSS OAU), I am delighted to welcome the incoming part one law students to the prestigious Faculty of Law, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
Indeed, the journey was not easy. After lots of preparation, sleepless nights and various examinations, you were able to find your way through, among the numerous applicants, into the quintessential Faculty of Law, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. And we are really glad you are here.
Although orientation week maybe really hectic for you as you have to do various kind of registrations and familiarise yourselves with various facilities available at the University, LSS OAU Orientation Committee is here to provide you with all the support you need to make orientation week a successful and a memorable one. We give you the best orientation in the country!
Accordingly, on the commencement of LSS OAU orientation exercise, all part one law students of the Faculty of Law are hereby directed to resume early to settle down and subsequently bring the necessary documents to be submitted to the Faculty.
COMMENCEMENT OF LSS OAU FRESHERS' ORIENTATION
LSS OAU Freshers' Orientation is expected to commence from Monday, 1st of May, 2017. However, due to the fact that there is public holiday on that day, the commencement of the orientation exercise may have to be shifted to Tuesday, 2nd of May, 2017.

COURSE REGISTRATION
The minimum total of course units to be registered by all students of Obafemi Awolowo University is 15 units while the maximum total is 24 units.
All part one students of the prestigious faculty of law must register all their FIVE (5) CORE COURSES. The core courses are listed as follows:

Under RESTRICTED ELECTIVE COURSES, they are required to simply choose ONE (1) among the listed courses.
Further, they must register these two SPECIAL ELECTIVE COURSES: LIB001 (Use of Library) and SER001 (Use of English). Finally, they may select TWO (2) other special elective courses to fill the remaining space for the maximum total of course units allowed to be registered.
It must be noted however that there is a sub-committee known as E-REGISTRATION under the Orientation Committee charged with the duty of assisting and giving proper guidance to Ifelaw freshers on how to register, together with the actual registration of their courses.
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR LAW STUDENTS
The Legal Profession is an honourable profession and all who belong or aspire to it must exhibit that trait and strength of character. Good character is most crucial for admission to the Law School and subsequently to the Bar.
The Council of Legal Education, conscious of its responsibility for the Legal Education of persons seeking to become members of the Legal Profession, and in conjunction with the Body of Benchers, responsible for regulating the practice of the profession in Nigeria i.e. to train for the profession disciplined gentlemen of honour, approved a code of conduct for the information and compliance of Law Students who intend to seek admission into the Nigerian Law School, qualify for the Bar, and subsequently enrol as Legal Practitioners in Nigeria.
1.0 A Law Student must be honest and of good behaviour. He/She should be a responsible and reliable person.
2.0 DRESSING: All students must be well dressed at all times in Regulation Wear.
2.1 MALE: Dark suit, white shirt, black tie (not bow tie), white breast pocket handkerchief, black socks and black shoes (Sandals are not allowed).
During hot weather, male students may be permitted to wear white long sleeve shirts with black tie, black trousers (charcoal grey may be allowed) and black shoes to class.
2.2 FEMALE: Dark gown or dark suit, white blouse, black skirt covering the knees and black covered shoes. (Sandals are not allowed) There should be no embroidery and or trimmings of any type on the gown, suit or blouse; and only moderate jewellery should be worn – (No large dangling or coloured earrings, or bracelets are allowed). Also, glitters or colouring of any type in the hair is prohibited.
During hot weather, female students may be permitted to wear white translucent blouses (not tee-shirt), black skirts covering the knee (charcoal grey may be permitted) and black covered shoes to the class.
2.3 ALL Gowns and Skirts –
(a) Must be graceful, but not cling provocatively to the body;
(b) Must not be above the knee; and
(c) Must not have high slits (i.e. above the knee)
2.4 ALL Blouses or Shirts –
(a) Must be graceful, but not cling provocatively to the body;
(b) Must not expose sensitive parts of the body i.e. it must not expose your cleavage, upper arm stomach and/or navel.
