It has been brought to the notice of the Oluwaseyi Gabriel Ogundare Campaign Organization about the watery and malicious information being sponsored by the All Progressive Congress (APC) and her candidate in Owo/Ose Federal Constituency.

Their Kangaroo press release, “the SDP in Owo collapse structure for Adelegbe” that has been going around the media space is one hell of unnecessary propaganda being spread to gather some cheap political points. 

The lies concocted by the APC in Owo further reveal the level of stunted development they have served the federal constituency with for the past four years. It also shows their level of pettiness by unnecessarily heating the polity. 

Let us set the record straight, the Social Democratic Party and her candidate, Comr. Oluwaseyi Gabriel Ogundare (OGO), for the Owo/Ose house of representatives seat, remains unperturbed by the malicious lies being cooked around.

Also, it is a political comedy to opine that a party structure was collapsed by an individual who has never been part of the leadership of the party, a man without the membership card of the party, one Mr. Ayotunde Omotola, who was seen dining with the APC, is one myopic individual whose aim is to eat deep into resources not meant for him. 

Oluwaseyi Gabriel Ogundare of the SDP remains committed to salvaging Owo/Ose from her pauperized state and we, therefore, re-emphasize to the public to be wary of any form of misinformation, defamation, and malicious comments made by these unscrupulous elements.

Pupils to be Taught In Mother tongue as FEC Approves National Language Policy

"One of the highlights is that the government has agreed now that henceforth, instruction in primary schools; the first six years of learning will be in the mother tongue.” - Minister Adamu Adamu.The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a National Language Policy for use in all primary schools across the country. Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, made this known to State House correspondents at the end of the Council’s meeting which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said: “A memo on national policy was approved by the council. So, Nigeria now has a National Language Policy and the details will be given later by the ministry.

“One of the highlights is that the government has agreed now that henceforth, instruction in primary schools; the first six years of learning will be in the mother tongue.”

RukotoTV reports that the minister indicated that the decision is only in principle for now because it will require a lot of work to implement it.

“Theoretically, this policy starts from today but the use of mother tongue is exclusive but we need time to develop the material, get the teachers and so on.

”Since the first six years of school should be in the mother tongue. Whereby the pupil is, the language of the host community is what will be used.

“Because we have 625 languages at the last count and the objective of this policy is to promote, and enhance the cultivation and use of all Nigerian languages,” he added.

The Minister of Education Adamu further revealed that the council approved a consultancy services agreement between the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and a private company, for the upgrade of the portal on which the Board records candidates seeking admission into higher institutions of learning.

Ondo State Assembly Reinstates Two Suspended Lawmakers, passed the bill for lotteries regulatory

The two lawmakers who were suspended by the Ondo State House of Assembly over allegation of Anti-party and other offenses have been reinstated.The Legislators are Hon.Success Torhukerhijo,representing Ese-Odo State Constituency and Hon.Favour Tomomowo representing Ilaje Constituency 2.

The Speaker reiterated that the declaration of the seats of the duo was not as a result of vendetta but was in line with Constitutional provision.

The House at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon.Oleyelogun Bamidele David said they were asked to resume duty following a notice of allegiance of the two lawmakers to the Party Chairmen of their Wards and at the State Level.

While welcoming them back to the House, Oleyelogun urged the Lawmakers to continue to work for the overall interest of the party at all times.

The Speaker later directed that all their benefits and entitlements be released to them forthwith.

The motion for their consideration had earlier been moved by the Majority Leader Hon.Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi and seconded by Hon.Samuel Edamisan.

Also, the House passed the bill for lotteries regulatory Commission and other matters connected thereto, 2022.

Presenting the report of the committee on Commerce and Industry, its Chairman, Hon. Rasheed Elegbeleye said the committee had carefully scrutinized the bill with recommendations for consideration by the House.

However, the bill was later passed by members through unanimous votes.

The Clerk of the House, Benjamin Jaiyeola also presented the bill for law to amend the Ondo State Micro Credit Agency and other ancillary matters law, 2008 for first reading.

₦‎206bn In Humanitarian Affairs Ministry Was Wrongly Coded - Zainah Ahmed

Zainab Ahmed, minister of finance, budget and national planning, says N206 billion captured in the ministry of humanitarian affairs’ 2023 budget proposal was wrongly coded by the Budget Office.

In a statement issued by Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, special adviser, media & communications, ministry of finance, the minister said this on Tuesday at a meeting with the house committee on appropriation.

Ahmed, who dismissed the budget padding allegation, explained that the N206 billion was an oversight.The minister said the N206 billion was for the national social safety nets project funded by the World Bank and domiciled in the humanitarian ministry.

She noted that the wrong coding resulted in the item being wrongly captured as “purchase of security equipment” and had nothing to do with budget padding but an oversight.

According to her, the minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management should have called the attention of the budget office to the anomaly like her counterparts in other ministries.

She disclosed that the ministry of defence, ministry of power, among others, also committed the same error.Ahmed, however, called for collaboration among ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to forestall such oversight.

₦‎20M Cash Community Paid To Bandit Leader To Avoid Attacks

Residents of Gidan-goga village, in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, allegedly paid a N20m levy imposed on them by bandit leader, Bello Turji, to stop him from attacking them.

The bandit leader had asked the villagers to pay the money on or before Sunday, November 27, or face his wrath.

A resident of the community said that the money was paid on Sunday and villagers who fled to other places, have started returning to their homes.

Student Who Criticised Aisha Buhari Remanded In Suleja Prison

Aminu Adamu, the student of the Federal University, Dutse, who was arrested after criticising First Lady Aisha Buhari, on Twitter, has been remanded at Suleja Prison in Niger State.

The student was remanded after he was arraigned at a court in Abuja.

Speaking with BBC Hausa, CK Agu, his lawyer, said the court refused to grant Adamu bail.

“Even in the court session yesterday, we notified the judge about the efforts made to have him released on bail, but we did not receive any reply from the police. We applied to the court to release the student on bail on health grounds and the fact that he will sit for the exam on 5, December. The court has ordered the police to provide the bail application before it for consideration between Tuesday and Wednesday,” Mr Agu was quoted to have said.

The Enugu State Command police has arrested a native doctor for killing his client in his shrine while testing the gunshot protection charm he had prepared for him.

The native doctor was one of 17 people arrested and paraded for conspiracy, murder, armed robbery, truck snatching, abduction, and unlawful possession of a firearm in recent times in the state.

This was revealed in a statement released on Tuesday by the state's Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, via the command's Twitter handle.

The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on November 28, 2022 secured the conviction of a 30-year-old man, Yusuf Yusuf Olarewaju, a native of Erin-Ile in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State for offences bordering on internet fraud.Justice Adebayo Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin found Olarewaju guilty of the one count charge brought against him by the anti-graft agency.

Consequently, the judge sentenced him to 6 months imprisonment with option of fine of N200,000. The court also forfeited all the instruments used by the convict to perpetrate the crime, including the proceeds of crime - a Mercedes Benz GLK 2010 model; a Toyota Camry 2013 model; a Toyota Corolla 2005 model, iphone 14 promax and the sum of N24,364,860 (Twenty Four Million, Three Hundred and Sixty Four Thousand, Eight Hundred and Sixty Naira).

Olarewaju’s journey to jail started on October 23, 2022 when he was arrested following actionable intelligence about the activities of syndicates of fraudsters operating in Erin-Ile and environs.

Investigation revealed that Olarewaju, while using a fraudulent email, [email protected], posed as one Smith Katie, a white female from Missouri, USA, to strike relationships with one James Gibson (Jimmy) and Stephen Speer, both of whom he swindled to the tune of $30,000 USD between 2021 and 2022.

The defendant did not only confessed to the crime, but also pleaded guilty when he was arraigned in court on November 11, 2022.

At the resumed sitting of the case on Monday, Justice Yusuf said he had carefully evaluated the facts of the case; the guilty plea entered by the defendant; the extra-judicial statements of the defendant as well as the exhibits tendered in evidence and was convinced that there were justifiable reasons to convict the defendant. Consequently, the judge pronounced him guilty.

NANS Apologises To Aisha Buhari Over Aminu Mohammed's Arrest

The National Association of Nigerian Students has apologised to Aisha Buhari, wife of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), over the arrest of a student of the Federal University, Dutse Jigawa, Aminu Mohammed, by the Nigeria Police.

Condemnations had trailed the reported arrest of Mohammed over a tweet on the First Lady. Notable Nigerians including social activist, Aisha Yesufu, knocked Aisha for allegedly using her power against the student.

While initial reports were that Mohammed was arrested by the Department of State Services, NANS revealed that he was rather arrested by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, who traced Mohammed to Jigawa where he was picked up.

NANS in a statement on Tuesday by its President, Usman Barambu, apologised on behalf of the Nigerian students to the First Lady, while also calling for Mohammed’s release.

“The leadership of NANS received with concern the news of the unlawful arrest of Mohammed by the Nigeria Police on the instruction of Aisha Buhari. Upon receiving the news, I, Mohammed’s family and friends swung into action to trace the whereabouts of Mohammed. After some days of searching, we got the information that he was at the police unit in Wuse Zone 2. I met with Mohammed at the police custody.

“It was alleged that Mohammed some weeks back posted Aisha Buhari’s picture on Twitter with the caption “Su mama anchi kudin talakawa an koshi” (translated from Hausa to ‘the mother has gotten fatter by eating masses’ money’).“Just like the normal way angry citizens have different ways of expression on the social media. On November 18, 2022, the police from Abuja tracked Mohammed to the Federal University Dutse and picked him without any written/verbal invitation or informing the school management or his family,” Barambu narrated.

The NANS President said Mohammed was taken straight to the Presidential Villa where he was allegedly brutalised, beaten, maltreated and humiliated by the police “on the orders of Aisha Buhari, after which he was unlawfully detained at a police facility at Wuse Zone II till date. I, alongside our team of lawyers, met with Mohammed at the police facility where he confirmed the incident to me. Until now, Mohammed has not been arraigned by any competent court of law or granted bail by the police.”

“We want to, on behalf of all the Nigerian students, tender our unreserved apology to the First Lady Aisha Buhari, for the action of Mohammed which might have caused her and her family pains. However, as leaders and public office holders, we must overlook some criticisms if we want to really forge ahead and do the right thing,” Barambu said.

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has handed over to the Nigeria Police the Intelligence and Surveillance Centre that was built by his administration with the sole aim of boosting efforts of the security agencies in crime fighting in the State.

Governor Wike made the hand over on Monday at the inauguration of the Intelligence and Surveillance Centre in Ogbum-Nu-Abali community, Port Harcourt. The inauguration was performed by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba.

The governor said the Centre is fitted with the latest technology and it will help in improving crime fighting capability of police officers and make the State safer.

He noted the need to creating more conducive climate for people in the State to go about their various endeavours and encourage the business community to operate their investment with greater sense of security.

“Let me say clearly, this is our own contribution to making sure we have peace, fight insecurity, and that those who do business and reside here sleep with their two eyes close.”

Governor Wike assured that another Intelligence and Surveillance Centre will be built and donated to the police in the next six months.

Together, the two centres, governor Wike enthused, that it will be part of the continued support of his administration towards strengthening the capability of the security agencies in their fight against criminality in the State

Governor Wike pledged to purchase and donate 10 more armoured vehicles to the Intelligence and Surveillance Centre to strengthen the performance of officers that will be deployed to the centre.

The governor noted that crime fighting in the State has improved tremendously since the Inspector General of Police was appointed. This is because instead of interfering, he has encouraged professionalism among his officers.Governor Wike recalled that before the IGP was appointment, police commissioners posted to the Rivers State were changed intermittent, which affected crime fighting in the State.

“Let me commend our special guest of honour for the support you're giving to this Command to fight crime. I want to say it on good authority that since you came we have had peace, we have had good relationship with the Police Command, unlike what use to happen before where in one year we had over eight Commissioners of Police. I thank you for not bringing politics in security issues, and that is why today Rivers people can count this as one of The safest states.”

In his speech, Inspector General of Nigerian Police, Usman Alkali Baba thanked governor Wike for providing the centre that will enhance the police capability to perform according to international best practice.“Your excellency, this project is a main boost to my agenda of policing Nigeria in this contemporary time, which is in tandem with providing international best practices of using technology and ICT to police with ease.”

According to him, the entire State capital, Port Harcourt will be under surveillance and monitored within the control room of the centre.

Baba noted that the services to access at the Intelligence and Surveillance Centre will be combined with the police Cyber Crime Unit to render improved policing to Nigerians.

“I want to assure you that police will make use judiciously of this centre in collaboration with our cybercrime unit to tackle all forms of crime and criminality. We will do the needful to discharge our duty as expected.”The centre, he noted, can also be opened to other security agencies, on the basis of collaboration, synergy and cooperation to achieve real time monitoring of crime incidences and apprehension of the culprits.

“You can sit and police Rivers by getting a live time incident report and you can also have the opportunity to send a team that is on standby at the station. I think this is the international practice we will encourage, and also appeal to other state government and other stakeholders to repeat such project that will make human factor not an issue.”

Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Okon Effiong said the donation of the Intelligence and Surveillance Centre by the Wike's administration is another of his outstanding and unflinching support to the police in the State.

He informed that there are about 150 CCTV cameras installed in strategic places across Port Harcourt and connected to the centre to keep the city under the surveillance radar on 24 hours basis daily. “The Governor had earlier provided for the installation of CCTV security and surveillance cameras at all the entry and exit points in the State. He has also graciously given approval for the installation of cameras in all the major cities in the State. In Port Harcourt for instance, about one hundred and fifty (150) cameras are being mounted. What this translate to is that from this centre the entire State will come under a surveillance radar that will be active 24/7.”

Mr Okon also said that there are 10 sectors into which the state capital has been delimited with dedicated teams that will respond to incidences. According to him, if activities at the crime scene becomes overwhelming, Mr. Okong, said, the strike-force team that is on standby at the centre will offer a backup.

Providing a description of the project, the Rivers State Commissioner for Special Projects, Deinma Iyalla said there is a main building where the different gadgets are installed and connected to the control system.The main building, he stated, also has 17 offices that are well equipped with facilities that will enable the personnel perform in-office duties.

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has informed that the decision on the presidential candidate to vote in the 2023 general election in the State will soon be made known.

He said when the decision will be taken, Rivers electorate, who have enjoyed good governance under his watch and already desirous to reciprocate the gesture, will be told which presidential candidate to vote.

Governor Wike made the position known while inaugurating the Rukpokwu-Rumuapu-Izo-Ogbodo Igwuruta Link Road, which took place in Rumuapu community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area on Tuesday.

The governor said, for what his administration has done in terms of performance and provision of critical infrastructure, Rivers people are already home with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He then charged the electorate to cast their votes only for PDP gubernatorial candidate as well National Assembly to State Assembly candidates.

“Then the other one (presidential), I will come and tell you where we will vote. These ones (governorship, Senatorial, Reps and State Assembly candidates) I mentioned now, make sure you come and vote for them. Very soon, we'll meet in our houses and a take decision where we are going to.”

Governor Wike mocked governorship candidates of other parties in the State, who he said are not in touch with the people at the grassroot. According to him, these candidates, he stated, do not also have any follower, no traditional or political opinion leaders who can help galvanise the support of the electorate for them.

Such candidates, governor Wike noted, are only desperately going about collecting money from people in the guise of preparing for election when they know that they are not in the race to win the election.

Governor Wike said Rivers electorate will vote the party that has come to their aid, supported and made them happy while also sustaining the peace in the State.

“You will work for a party that has come to your aid, a party that has brought dividends of democracy. If the people of Rukpokwu are not happy, will they be here. Governance is all about the happiness of the people. When the people are happy, we are happy. So, if I come here to address you everybody will listen to me.”

The Rivers State governor boasted that his administration has attended to every area of development concern in Apara kingdom, particularly on the provision of roads.

He has therefore, challenged any person within the kingdom in Obio Akpor Local Government Area to dare mention any that has been left unattended.

On the issue of security, the governor said with the inauguration of the Police Intelligence and Surveillance Centre in Port Harcourt by the Inspector General of Police on Monday, criminals involved in kidnapping will be easily arrested for prosecution.

“Yesterday (Monday), the Inspector General of Police came and we commissioned the Intelligence and Surveillance Centre. I want to tell all of you who may be thinking of kidnapping. The time is over. As it is now, in that Intelligence Centre, we will be watching you on screen. Anywhere you are on the road we are seeing you. That period is over when you think you will commit a crime and runaway.”

In his address, Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Dr George-Kelly Dakorinima Alabo stated that the Rukpokwu-Rumuapu-Izo-Ogbodo Igwuruta Link Road connects the Obio-Akpor and Ikwerre Local Government Areas.

The road, he said, is 7.6km in length, 7.3 meters in width with 7km of drains, which has been delivered in the best quality specified. It has already enhanced the ease of doing business in the area.

The Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, George Ariolu, who commended the governor for his aggressive infrastructure development, assured him that the people of the council will be fully mobilised to vote for the State PDP candidates in the 2023 general election.

Troops Raid Bandit Camp, Rescue Nine Victims, Recovers ninety cows, four motorcycles

Troops of Operation Forest Sanity have rescued nine kidnapped persons during fighting patrols to suspected bandit hideouts in Kaso, Chikun Local Government Area.According to operational feedback to the Kaduna State Government, the troops engaged bandits on the Tantatu high ground, as the bandits abandoned their camp fled further into the forest.

Ondomind reports that a statement by the Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, said the troops searched the camp and rescued nine kidnapped persons, identified as:

- Husseini Odu

- Danjuma Jakanwa

- Ezekiel Garba

- Obadiah Moses

- Taiwo Isaac

- Buky Isaac

- Ado Adamu

- Maigari Shekarau

Initial debriefing of the rescued victims revealed that they had all been kidnapped around the Gurara Dam area.

The troops also recovered 90 cattle left behind by the fleeing bandits. The animals will be handed over to the Kaduna State Livestock Regulatory Authority for proper identification.

Further clearance patrols to Bawa Rikasa hill led to the recovery of four motorcycles belonging to the bandits.

He said the nine rescued persons will undergo further debriefing and examination before being reunited with their families. Fighting patrols will continue in the general area.

13-years-old boy impregnates HIS 9-year-old cousin

Zimbabwean police have confirmed that a 13-year-old boy impregnated his 9-year-old cousin in Tsholotsho.

29-year-old father of the pregnant girl was arrested on 29 October 2022, shortly after it was discovered that his daughter was pregnant. He is reported to have been assisting the police with their investigations.

Many suspected that the father had raped his 9-year-old daughter, who was diagnosed with a rare condition called precocious puberty.

The suspicion was ignited after the mother of the 9-year-old alleged that her husband had warned the child that goblins would visit her and insert things into her privates at night.

It was gathered that the Applied Genetic Testing Centre (AGTC) of the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) volunteered to help the Zimbabwean authorities establish who had abused and impregnated the 9-year-old girl.

A paternity DNA test results established that the victim’s 13-year-old cousin is indeed the father of the child.

The country's national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner, Paul Nyathi said in a statement;

“UPDATE ON A CASE OF RAPE INVOLVING A 9 YEAR OLD GIRL IN TSHOLOTSHO

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) results obtained from the National University of Science and Technology on 25th November 2022, in connection with the paternity of the 9 year old girl’s child, have established that the victim’s cousin brother (13) is the father of the child.

“The 9 year old complainant and the suspect will now receive the appropriate counselling from the Police’s Victim Friendly Unit (VFU).

“The police is now working with other relevant arms of the government to ensure that the due processes of the law are followed. “

FG begins 14-days Paternity Leave for male civil Servants

Federal civil servants will henceforth get a 14-day paternity leave.This was announced by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, in a circular with ref no: HCSF/SPSO/ODD/NCE/RR/650309/3, dated 25th November, 2022, and titled, ‘Computation of Leave Based on Working Days and Approval of Paternity Leave in the Public Service’.

Esan said the leave is in line with the provisions of the Public Service Rules, 2021 Edition.

It read;

“Government has also approved Paternity Leave for serving male officers whose spouse delivers a baby. The period of the leave shall be fourteen working days. The leave shall not be more than once in two years, and a for maximum of four children.

“Where the family of a male officer adopts a child under four months old, the officer will similarly enjoy Paternity Leave for a period of fourteen working days.”

Such leave shall be accompanied by the Expected Date of Delivery’s report of the officer’s wife or evidence of approval of the adoption of the child by the relevant government bodies.

The effective date of the circular was November 25, 2022.

The police in Bauchi state have arrested a 20-year-old woman identified as Maryam Ibrahim for k!lling her co-wife, Hafsat Ibrahim, at Gar Village in Pali Ward in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State on November 22.In a statement released, the spokesperson of the state police command, Ahmed Walil, said that the husband of the suspect reported the incident to the police.

“On the 22nd November 2022 at about 6.00pm, one Ibrahim Sambo, male (40) of Gar village Pali ward, Alkaleri LGA, came to Maina-maji Divisional Police Headquarters and reported that on the same date at about 12.00am, his second wife Maryam Ibrahim, (20) of the same address armed with a pestle entered into his first wife room, Hafsat Ibrahim (32), of the same address and hit her with the pestle on the head.

As a result, the victim sustained a serious degree of injury and was evacuated to a primary health care center in Gar village where she was certified d£ad by the medical doctor.

Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives attached to the command swung into action and arrested the suspect.

During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime. She revealed that on Tuesday, 22nd November 2022 at about 11.00am, the deceased (Hafsat Ibrahim), sent her son, Abdulaziz Ibrahim (5) with a lump of fried meat known as (Tsire) to give her (Maryam). After eating the meat, she started feeling abnormal and she then vomited the meat.

Thereafter, she (the suspect) called one Faiza Hamisu, female, of the same address, the wife of her husband’s younger brother, and told her exactly what happened.

She added that the said Faiza told her that it was probably an ulcer; she (Faiza), then gave her an ulcer drug''

Wakil stated that the suspect provocatively went to her kitchen, picked a pestle and entered the first wife’s room while she was asleep and hit her on the head, leading to her d£ath.

He said she will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.

WHO renames Monkeypox sickness as MPOX due to Racism

Monkeypox is to be rebranded as ‘mpox’ after global health experts said the name had racist connotations and could lead to stigmatisation.The World Health Organisation (WHO) said the term monkeypox would be phased out over the coming year.

Ondomind reports that it follows a forum in the summer in which two families of monkeypox - the Congo Basin and West African clades - were renamed as Clade I and Clade II.

At the time, the WHO said the decision was to ‘avoid causing offence to any cultural, social, national, regional, professional, or ethnic groups, and minimise any negative impact on trade, travel, tourism or animal welfare.’

In a statement about the move to ‘mpox’, the international health body said: “When the outbreak of monkeypox expanded earlier this year, racist and stigmatising language online, in other settings and in some communities was observed and reported to WHO.

“Following a series of consultations with global experts, WHO will begin using a new preferred term 'mpox' as a synonym for monkeypox. Both names will be used simultaneously for one year while 'monkeypox' is phased out.”

The WHO is responsible for naming new diseases and ‘very exceptionally’ will rename existing conditions.

In 2015, it released new guidelines entitled “Best Practices for the Naming of New Human Infectious Diseases,” in which it advised that diseases should no longer be named after places, specific people such as “Creutzfeld-Jakob disease’ or Alzheimer’s, occupations, such as Legionnaires disease, or animals, such as swine flu.

During the pandemic, the body renamed several variants, including the Kent variant, which became Alpha, the South African variant, which became Beta, and the Indian Variant, which became Delta.

Some 3,720 cases have been identified in the UK since the start of May, although the UK Health Security Agency has said it is seeing fewer and fewer cases reported.

NHS England said some 68,000 people have been inoculated against the disease with the smallpox vaccine since the outbreak began in May.

It is now launching a campaign offering a second vaccination to those eligible who have already had their first jab.

ASUU Threatens Fresh Crisis Over No Work No Pay

Academic Staff Union of Nigeria Universities (ASUU) has alerted Nigerians about a fresh crisis it claimed would surpass all previous ones in Nigerian universities.To this end, ASUU sought intervention of stakeholders and well meaning Nigerians to prevail on the federal government to pay members across the country their withheld eight months salaries.

He said, “Though we have resumed work in our university, government’s ignoble stance of withholding our eight months’ salaries based on its ill-advised policy of ‘No work, No Pay’ is set to trigger fresh crisis.

“In the coming days, the union would respond by considering to invoke the ‘No Pay, No work’ policy and would abandon the works that have accumulated for those period which government has falsely claimed, through Chris Ngige, that our members have not worked.”

He said members of the public are “put on notice again that a fresh crisis, which would surpass all previous ones, is looming in Nigerian universities, saying the union members would not continue to do free work.

He added, “Our union and its members should not be held responsible for the consequences that its actions, in response to the crude wickedness of the Nigerian state, would have on all stakeholders.

“As a law-abiding union, we have heeded the directive of the court which directed that we resume to our duty posts while the substantive matter is being heard. However, after resumption from strike and to our utmost dismay, government decided, that half salaries be paid to our members for the month of October, 2022. This development is unacceptable and would be resisted by our union.

ASUU insisted that “The fact is that academics are not casual workers. Only casual workers receive pay prorate”

The Borno State Government disclosed this to journalists in Maiduguri, the state capital on Tuesday.
