Rats eat 200kg of cannabis seized by police from drug dealers

Police in India have blamed rats for destroying nearly 200kg of cannabis seized from criminals and kept in police stations.A court heard how the rodents had in some cases eaten the marijuana being kept as evidence.

The judge cited three cases in which marijuana was destroyed by rodents.

A statement read to the court said: “Rats are tiny animals and they have no fear of the police. It’s difficult to protect the drug from them.”

Judge Sanjay Chaudhary said in an order that when the court asked the police to produce the seized drug as evidence, it was told that 195kg of cannabis had been “destroyed” by rats.

In another case involving 386kg of the drug, the police filed a report saying “some” of the cannabis was “eaten up by the rats”.

Judge Chaudhary told the court around 700kg of marijuana seized by the police was lying in police stations in Mathura district and that “all of it was under danger of infestation by rats.”

He said the police had no expertise in dealing with the matter as the rats were “too small”. The only way to protect the seized goods from “such fearless mice”, he added, was to auction the drugs to research labs and medicine firms, with the proceeds going to the government.

In 2018, eight Argentinian police officers were fired after they blamed mice for the disappearance of half a ton of cannabis from a police warehouse.

But experts disputed the claim, saying that the animals were unlikely to confuse the drug for food and “if a large group of mice had eaten it, a lot of corpses would have been found in the warehouse”.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Saturday, dismissed allegations of age falsification levelled against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.Born on March 29, 1952, Tinubu is 70 years old, based on official records submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission. However, the former Lagos State governor’s age has been intensely scrutinised and debated.

Gbajabiamila defended the APC during a brief address at the joint APC presidential and governorship rally in Lagos.

Speaking on winning over undecided voters, whom he described as a “very small group outside,” he urged APC supporters in attendance to address some popular concerns on Tinubu’s fitness for office.

When they ask you, who is Tinubu, tell them Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House said Tinubu is the greatest politician in modern-day Nigerian politics,” he said.

“They will ask you, ‘How old is he? What is his age?’ Tell them that Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House said he is the age his mother said he is. And if they doubt his age, they should go and meet his mother to reconfirm.”

Tinubu’s mother, Abibatu Mogaji died on June 15, 2013 at the age of 96.

“They will tell you, ‘But they said he did not go to school.’ Tell them that I, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House, said he is more educated than all the contestants put together,” the Speaker said

A Nigerian woman has confessed about how a native doctor gave her directions on a fetish practice that would make her business boom.She said when she started selling food two years ago, she usually cooks food with water she used to take her.

The food vendor confessed during a phone-in interview on Wazobia FM, where she revealed that her food business was in Mowe, Lagos state.

She said the bath water she uses to cook food and it made her to get a lot of customers even up till today.

According to her, the native doctor is from Edo state and she was introduced to him by a friend whom she approached for help.

The food seller said she still washes her body and uses the bath water to cook food because her business is booming but she now has workers who serve people.

She said that she feels guilty about what she does but she decided to continue because it transformed her life and made her to continually get customer.

The woman said she paid the native doctor N200,000 and since the first time they met, she has not gone back to see him.

CJN Inaugurates Justice Mary Odili Judicial Institute, Wike Approves N500m Take off Grant For Institute

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has approved the release of N500 million as take off grant for the Justice Mary Odili Judicial Institute (JMOJI) in Port Harcourt.Governor Wike announced the grant at the inauguration of Justice Mary Odili Judicial Institute, that was performed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, on Friday.

Also inaugurated was the Federal Judicial Service Commission, South-South liaison office in Port Harcourt.

Governor Wike pointed out that availability of money is important for the institute to start off its operations immediately after the inauguration.

"I have made my budget presentation and it was not included. I've told the Commissioner of Finance, now that the budget has not be approved, make sure it is included in the 2023 budget.

"But to start off for now until next year budget will be released, we are making a grant to them of N500 million so that the institute can start immediately and so that we can have the full benefit "

Governor Wike observed that the National Judicial Institute (NJI), which is saddled with the responsibility of training judges and magistrate yearly has the challenge of carrying capacity.

He said this means that not every judge and magistrate billed for the continuous training exercise will be lucky for admission in any current year of such request.

Which is the gap, Governor Wike emphasised, that the Justice Mary Odili Judicial Institute has come to fill, so that judges and magistrates can regularly access training and education opportunities in Nigeria.

"Actually, if Nigeria is operating a true federal system, there is nothing wrong for States having their own judicial institute that will train judges who, of course, apply the laws, preside over matters that affects the State and business around here.

"But we thank God today that the federal government through the CJN has approved it. What we are doing is to complement the efforts of NJI.

"We are not taking over the functions of NJI. We are only complementing, so that our own judges will be ahead of other States."

Governor also informed that the Justice Mary Odili Judicial Institute will be willing to accommodate other judges and magistrates that will be referred to it by NJI and train them free of charge.

"We can also allow them free of charge to come for training here in order to reduce the financial implication of sending most of the judges in the South-South to go to Abuja.

Speaking further, governor Wike hinted on the need to amend the Judicial Institute Law No. 8 of 2021 establishing the Justice Mary Odili Judicial Institute in order to strengthen its operational and financial independence.

"For us, it is not only a Judicial Institute, in fact, I've called the attention of the Attorney General to it. And from what the Chief Judge read today, I will seek for amendment by Monday because there are so many things I'm not too comfortable with.

"Because I want a body that, of course, you'll have a supervision but it will not look like the supervision that will hamper the working of the institute.

"I want where the institute will be just like you have the arbitration court, you have the family court and the rest where budget is being made for them. There will be a different budget for this institute so that we know that it is working."

Governor Wike explained that the institute is named after Justice Odili, a renowned jurist of Rivers State extraction, who ranked as the first to have rose from the magistracy to the Supreme Court of Nigeria and returned with unblemished record of service.

He explained that the land where the Justice Mary Odili Judicial Institute is located, beside the State Judiciary Complex was formerly owned by the default Nigeria Airways.

According to him, the delipidated and abandoned buildings there became a hideout for criminals, hence the decision of the Rivers State government to acquire the property and use it for public good.

Performing the inauguration, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola said that governor Wike is one lawyer in position of authority who has remained relentless in speaking up for the growth, progress and prosperity of the Nigerian Judiciary.

"You have thus far given a good account of yourself as distinguished life bencher. To say we are proud of your Excellency is an understatement. You remain a shining light in the legal profession and we shall always remember you for your unflinching support in the erection of enduring judicial structure in the country."

Justice Ariwoola also stated further, "At this level of our national development, we should begin to emulate good things that will usher in a new dawn of progressive growth. This is, no doubt, a bold step worthy of commendation and emulation.

"You are one of the few governors who have pledged to give judges owner occupier residences so that when they eventually retire, they will get a life time accommodation.

"Today, that pledge has not only be fulfilled but has formed part of our history. Your efforts will tremendously improve the service delivery and comfort of our judicial officers."

In her speech, Justice Mary Odili said she and her husband have tried in vain in finding best way to thank governor Wike for his benevolence to them, including the naming of the institute after her.

She submitted that since it is difficult to do so and she can never repay governor Wike for all that he has done for them, they have presented him and his family to the Almighty God for the adequate reward due him.

Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi explained that the inauguration of the institute signifies the actualisation of the enabling law that governor Wike signed in 2021.

Justice Amadi said it was on October 12th, 2021 that governor Wike signed into law the Rivers State Judicial Institute Law No. 8 2021 that has a Board of Governors and an administrator who cater to the day to affairs of the institute.

On his part, the Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, SAN, said the institute will promote efficiency and effective speedy delivery of justice in the State.

Speaking on behalf of Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Onueze C.J. Okocha, SAN, said the institute will improve the efficiency of judges and magistrates in Rivers State.

Five other victims also reported to the Command and made statements of how they were robbed of about fifteen million naira (#15,000,000). Manhunt for the other members of the gang is ongoing.

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has rejected the sale of 10 power plants and headed to court to stop the move of privatisation of the plants by the Federal Government.The NGF disclosed that its lawyers have moved to prevent the regime of the President, Major General Muhammamadu Buhari from selling those power plants which are under the National Integrated Power Projects.

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company, which is owned by the federal, state, and local government councils, is a power generation and distribution company that oversees the implementation of the NIPPs.

The 36 state governors through their chairman, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State released a statement on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, after a teleconference meeting held on Tuesday to express their displeasure over the FG’s move.

The statement partly read, “The Forum, following its advocacy that the proposed privatisation of 10 National Integrated Power Projects (NIPPs) by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) should be stopped, instructed its lawyers to approach the Federal High Court which, at present has issued a court order restraining all the parties in the suit from taking any step or action that will make or render the outcome of the motion on notice seeking for interlocutory injunction nugatory.

Nigerian Tertiary Students Will Access N100,000 Study Grant Per Semester If I’m Elected — AAC Presidential Candidate, Sowore

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress(AAC) has promised that all students in the Nigerian tertiary institutions will have access to N100,000 study grants per semester if he is elected as the country’s president in the 2023 general elections.

The AAC presidential candidate made this assurance while speaking on Wednesday on a programme on Channels TV, while insisting that his government would ensure free and qualitative education to all Nigerians.

He said, “I will never be part of those who asked the private sector to run education. It will be publicly run education programme and we are focusing on free education. I have said and I am repeating it that every student in Nigeria who is in a higher institution (there are about 1.7 million students in higher institutions) will get at least N100,000 per semester as a study grant from the federal government and I mean it; I’m not going to make them take a loan.”

While explaining how he intended to generate funds for such initiative, Sowore stated that he had discovered how to cover many loopholes from the Nigerian revenue generating system.

He continued: “It will come from the number of places that we have discovered money is hiding right now; where we are not efficiently collecting revenue. I found out that just two weeks ago, there is Over N11 trillion from revenue-generating agencies of the federal government that is returned to the consolidated account.

“The NLNG which is our gas-producing company of which we have 49% investment through the NNPC’s depositing huge amounts of dollars to us but they’re not transparently done; we’ll make them deposit that money in the consolidated account of the federal government, not the NNPC because that’s a cesspool of corruption. We have always found out that oil companies both local and international companies are owing over four something billion.”

Saudi Arabian club, Al-Hilal, are looking to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.Ronaldo is now a free agent after Manchester United terminated his contract this week, following his interview with Piers Morgan.

2023 Election : Wike Tells Abia People To Vote Where Okezie Votes

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has told members of Abia State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and all Abians to trust their governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to lead them through the 2023 election to clinch victory for the party.Governor Wike gave the charge when he spoke on Thursday at the Umuahia Township Stadium, venue of the Abia State PDP campaign flag-off.

"That is why all of us who are members of integrity group, we have come to tell all of you; the gubernatorial candidate, the House of Assembly candidates, the senatorial candidates, the House of Representatives candidates, the G-5 will support all of you."

 

Governor Wike said the members of the Integrity Group attended the campaign flag-off to provide solidarity and support to Governor Ikpeazu and all the PDP candidates in Abia State.

 

"We came here today to tell you that there is nothing like going back. 

So, what I want to tell all of you, we stand for equity, we stand for fairness, we stand for justice. So, Okezie will tell you people at the appropriate time what to do, listen to him."

 

The Rivers State governor took a swipe at a particular member of the PDP in Abia State that said if he was compensated for losing in the primary that he would not leave the party.

 

Governor Wike pointed out that after the compensation was delivered and accepted, the aggrieved member still defected to another party.

 

"I am aware that because some people didn't get ticket in one of the senatorial district, they went and collected form. Let me tell you, today we commissioned a road in Obingwa Local Government, and I'm sure that person is from Obingwa Local Government. 

 

"I don't want to tell you what I did, he promised me that he will not leave PDP. I came, call your governor, your brother said he is not going to leave PDP. And I said what do we do and he said he needs some money. We gave him the money, three days after, he left PDP. "

 

On his part, Dr. Samuel Ortom of Benue State stressed that they stand by the truth as members of Integrity Group in furtherance of equity, fairness and justice.

 

According to him, they also do not shy away from apologising when they make mistakes.

 

"We the G-5 are committed to equity, fairness and justice. We stand by the truth. Where we make mistakes as human beings, we apologise and move forward. 

 

"I want to assure you that we are committed and our coming to Abia State today is to complement what our colleague is doing here and to support him and to say that we are together." 

 

Dr. Ortom pointed to the determination of the Integrity Group in doing all within its powers to deliver their candidates and move Nigeria out of the woods of insecurity, bad economy and battered social life of the citizenry.

 

"We shall win in 2023 to rescue Nigeria and take it from bottom to top. I want to assure you that we are strong in our States and we are committed to winning election like just what we have demonstrated here. 

 

"Continue to keep faith with us and by the grace of God, we shall take Nigeria from where we are today as people are suffering from insecurity, economic problems and social life. 

 

"I want to assure you that we are ready to support and to ensure that we take Nigeria out of the woods."

 

Also speaking, the Governor of Enugu State, Ífeanyi Ugwuanyi described his Abia State counterpart as a performing governor and prayed that PDP candidates in the State win their elections.

 

"I'm here to support my brother, a performing governor of Abia State, Dr. Victor Okezie Ikpeazu. I'm also here to support Prof. Uche Ikonne. Our prayer is that PDP shall win all the elections in Abia State."

 

In his address, Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde opined that the 2023 election will be like no other. He prayed God to grant electoral victory to all the candidates that have been given party flags.

 

"I want to congratulate our candidates who have received their flags today. And from the bottom of my heart, I know you will all be successful. 

 

"But let me say this to you, 2023 election is going to be like no other election in the history of Nigeria. So, please stay focus, hold your State and it will be well with you."

 

Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu boasted that PDP will win the 2023 election for all its candidates clearly and squarely. 

 

This is because it is the only functional party that is ready for the election since other parties have zero electoral value.

 

"I have seen a few individuals that are contesting various offices in some small mushroom parties. Some of them, we have not heard about them before until lately. 

 

"Incidentally the candidates of these small parties were shopped from the dustbin of the PDP. We have a few dustbins where we throw away relegate and recalcitrant people.

Wife stabs husband to death over sexual demand

A 27-year-old housewife, Odunayo Olumale has stabbed her husband, Olamilekan Salahudeen to death for making sexual advances to her.The incident happened three months after the couple reconciled and reunited following their separation.

Speaking in Ibadan while parading the suspect at the Oyo Police Command headquarter, Eleyele, Ibadan, police spokesman, Adewale Osifeso said preliminary investigation showed that the deceased and his wife returned to their house at Oko-Oba area of Oyo town on the day of the incident after their three-month separation.

Osifeso said: “On 17/11/2022 about 0350hrs, one Ismaila Tijani reported at Dubar Divisional Police headqauters that about 0223hrs of 16/11/2022, that his son named Olamilekan Salahudeen age 35 was stabbed to death with a knife by his wife Odunayo.”

“The deceased made a move to have sexual intercourse with his wife but rejected, this further led to the struggle where the deceased collected and smashed his wife’s phone and in retaliation, the deceased was stabbed on the chest, leading to his death”

"All our States from Abia to Rivers, to Oyo to Enugu, to Benue, all of us are PDP States, and we are very strong in all these States, and we are committed to our party. 

 

"We have teamed together to build this party to make it very strong and our intention was that we will take over governance in 2023 and build Nigeria again from bottom to top." 

 

Governor Ortom noted the enormous encouragement, support and leadership that governor Wike has provided the group in its battle against forces that are frustrating the PDP from winning the 2023 election.

 

He said, the five governors are men of integrity who believe in equity, fairness and justice will never succumb to any intimidation.

 

"One notable person that has made this party what it is, is governor Wike. Since he joined PDP, he has never left PDP.

 

"In 2015, when I was denied the ticket, l left, went to APC and grab the governor, came back to PDP, because PDP is home. 

 

"So, we appreciate PDP. It is the platform we are working for in our various States. We are not going to be intimated. We appreciate the traditional rulers. You charged us not to be intimidated but stand for the truth. That is what we stand for."

 

Governor Ortom expressed regret that some of those who were part of the accord on the demand that the next Nigeria's president should be a southerner eventually "chickened out".

 

"Unfortunately, enemies of progress came in. Because one thing that we believed as men of integrity, as men who believed in equity, fairness and justice was our resolve. 

 

"All of us and many others who chickened out, especially from the South resolved that after eight years of rule in the North, we all know that in the unwritten constitution of this country, that it was only right for the sake of justice and equity that presidency should come from the South. And that is what we have stood for."

 

Ortom said further, "Unfortunately, we have found ourselves where we are. But, we told ourselves, we are not going to leave the PDP. You cannot build a house and when a snake creeps into your house, do you abandon that house and run away to go and build another one?"

 

In his welcome address, the Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu informed that the Integrity Governors think, operate and execute their strategies and programmes in one accord. 

 

He noted that beyond, their States, which they support mutually ahead of the 2023 elections, they are beefing up firm support for the PDP in Cross River where the moral tenets of equity, fairness and justice are deeply rooted.

 

"We have come under serious attack and very serious propaganda from all quarters but we are undeterred. We are determined to stand firm for the truth and soon, as the needful is done, I assure you that all of us will work assiduously to make sure that PDP wins election in 2023."

 

Dr. Ikpeazu asserted that Nigeria is in dire strait and the Integrity Governors understand what should be done, which is why they are putting the right feet forward with a conviction that the country must be rescued.

 

"What we are preaching is not about our individual comfort but rather for you to see that we are saying the truth, laying a solid foundation for Nigerians today, and for our children in the future. 

 

"I am an incurable optimist and I believe that soon, the voice of reason will sound in the ears of those who are yet to realize and see the wisdom behind our position and the things we are saying."

Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, on Tuesday, expressed the commitment of the state government observe the lessons of the Niger Delta in its oil exploration at the Kolmani River located between Gombe and Bauchi states.Earlier in the day, President Muhammadu Buhari flagged off the Kolmani Integrated Development Project in the North-East, the first of its kind in the zone which has reportedly attracted $3 billion worth of invesments.

Yahaya, who spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today, highlighted the state government’s efforts towards ensuring environmental and economic stability in the region.

“We’ve learnt our lessons. With the developments and what has been happening around the Niger Delta and other oil-producing areas of the world, naturally, no government will allow things to follow the same track,” he said.

President Buhari To Launch French Version Of 'Muhammadu Buhari' Book In Niger Republic

President Muhammadu Buhari will embark on an official trip to Niamey, the Republic of Niger to attend the African Union Summit on Industrialization and Economic Diversification, as well as the Extraordinary Session on African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).The President who will depart Abuja on Thursday, November 24, 2022 will also attend the launching of French version of the Book entitled ‘‘Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria’’, as well as inaugurate the 'Muhammadu Buhari Boulevard', named after him by the Government of the Republic of Niger.

The naming of the Boulevard and launch of the French version of the Book, written by John Paden, a Professor of International Studies at George Mason University, northern Virginia, United States, on Thursday precedes the AU Summit on Friday, November 25, 2022.

President Buhari is expected to deliver his National Statement at the African Union Summit on Industrialization and Economic Diversification, meeting under the theme “Industrialising Africa: Renewed commitment towards an Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialization and Economic Diversification.”
