Three Persons Injured, Vehicles Smashed At Atiku’s Campaign

No fewer than three persons on Monday sustained various degrees of injuries in a clash involving Kalare boys and supporters of Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who was in Gombe, for his presidential campaign.In the process, three persons were injured, three vehicles; a bus, a car and one Keke NAPEP windshield were smashed as they were ambushed along Pantami stadium road by thugs.

Confirming the clash by Kalare boys with supporters after the campaign Usman Muritala, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he was not aware since he was not included in the campaign planning.

“I was not on the podium and was only there as an official of the party so I sat like every other person to watch the whole show. There is a division in the party, a very big one,” he said.

The Kalare boys armed with cutlass, swords, clubs and other dangerous weapons pounced on innocent party supporters who were on way to their respective residences.

The police who were manning the gate number one of the stadium quickly dispersed a detachment of armed policemen to the second gate to provide security for supporters who were rushing back into the stadium for safety.

Many supporters were stranded at the Pantami Stadium waiting for the police to restore peace and order as the Kalare boys blocked the route to Pantami market and Government House attacking passersby.

Some PDP women supporters have to attach themselves with police vans to avoid being attacked by the thugs.

I Will Rather Die Than Fail My Supporters - Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Monday, in Lagos said he would rather die than fail his supporters.Obi said this while speaking on the support from his supporters, adding, “I did not know many of them, but I vow not to disappoint them.

“I am determined not to fail them. I would rather die than fail them. I am going to serve them,” he stressed.

The LP presidential candidate also said that the right leadership would eliminate most of Nigeria’s challenges by turning the country from consumption to production.

Obi spoke at the Editors Forum, an initiative of the Nigerian Guild of Editors.

The former Governor of Anambra State said that the nation was going through many challenges mainly because it was a consuming instead of a producing country.

According to him, if the nation is productive, three-quarters of its challenges can be solved.

He listed the challenges to include unemployment, poverty, criminality and insecurity.

“We cannot have that number of people living in poverty and not have criminality, banditry and so on.

“We must remove sharing formula and replace it with the production formula,” he said.

He said that Nigeria had fertile lands and the population to do well in agriculture.

Wike Pledges Logistics support for Kwankwaso presidential campaign, says Nigeria In Dire Need of A True Unifier

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says Nigeria is in dire need of a unifier that will drive the affairs of governance without any form of segregation.

Governor Wike spoke at the inauguration of the Mgbuitanwo internal road in Emohua Local Government Area of the State. The Mgbuitanwo internal roads was inaugurated by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Monday.

Governor Wike expressed grave concern about how the diversity of the country has been grossly threatened by those who have resorted to campaign on the basis of ethnic and regional sentiment. According to him, such parochial tendency will make Nigerians more divided along religious and ethnic lines than ever before.

The Rivers State governor stated further that members of his integrity group are resolved to do what is right always as long as it will help to advance the county.

"It is not to say don't vote for a Yoruba man, don't vote for an Igbo man. That is not what we require in this country now. What we require is a man who will put Nigeria together. We of integrity group will continue to support whatever that is right, whatever will help this country."

The governor explained that he had tried in vain to persuade leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party not to allow Kwankwaso not to leave the party because of the strategic importance of Kano State.

“When you wanted to leave PDP, I came to your house in Abuja. I said sir, don't leave the party. I pleaded with you. I came two times. Those who never meant well for this party, who will want to take control where they never sowed. They said no, leave Kwankwaso to go. Who is he? Let him go, after all, I was a Senate President when he was Deputy Speaker House of Representatives. I said no, he is an asset to the party in Kano State. Kano is very important for our party, therefore, whatever it takes let's keep him, let manage him. They said let him go.

“I said the more the merrier. We are opposition party, we cannot continue to drive our people away. Whoever is angry, let's keep him, they said no. They said I went to see Kwankwaso, I said yes, because I know with him in Kano, there is likelihood that it will be better for us. But if we allow him to go, the repercussion will be too heavy. They said no. Kwankwaso left us.”

The Rivers State governor described the NNPP presidential candidate and former governor of Kano State, Kwankwaso as a man of integrity and number among leaders that Nigeria needs. According to him, the NNPP presidential candidate had assured him that his supporters who are still in PDP will vote for him during the PDP presidential primary and they did.

 Governor Wike offered to provide protocol and logistics support to Kwankwaso whenever he wants to do his campaigns in Rivers State.

 “If you're coming for campaign here, I will give you the logistic support for you to campaign. You're a former governor.”

He however, told Kwankwaso that it is difficult for any other party to win in Rivers State, therefore, it will be futile for him to waste resources, thinking he will win election for any candidate of his party in the State.

About his comment on release of unpaid 13% derivation money from 1999 to date, by President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Wike said he never said other Niger Delta governors should show proof of what they have done with their States’share.

Rather, Governor Wike stated that he only expressed his gratitude to President Buhari for releasing the money, which has helped him to execute a plethora of projects in the State.

“I never said people should account for their money. I never said so to anybody. All I said is people should thank Buhari for me, for giving me money to do all these projects. That all I said. If you people are interpreting a different thing that is your own business. Is it wrong to thank somebody who has done well for you?”

Governor Wike emphasised that his administration has never spent more than 14 months to deliver on any project in the State.

He pointed to the Mgbuitanwo Internal Roads as being among 20 other projects like the 9th, 10th flyovers that were all flagged off in June 2021, which have all been completed within the period.

Governor Wike said good governance is about the wellbeing of the people and if anybody in government or close to any top functionary is unable to attract project to his or her community, such person has failed

The governor stressed that his administration has delivered the Mgbuitanwo Internal Roads which is where Senator Andrew Uchendu, an All Progressives Congress chieftain hails from. He regretted that the former senator failed, while in government, to do the road for his community.

Governor Wike also mocked former Commissioner for Agriculture, Emma Chinda because he failed to attract government to do the roads for his Ogbakiri community, which his administration is now delivering for the people.

Performing the inauguration, the Presidential candidate of New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso commended governor Wike for engaging Julius Berger Nigeria PLC to deliver the best quality of roads in a rural community.

Such gesture, Kwankwaso noted speaks of a leader who loves his people and is doing the best to better their lot across sectors including the provision of quality educational infrastructure.

Kwankwaso stressed that those who are undermining the capability of the PDP G-5, particularly governor Wike, are doing so to their peril politically because Rivers State like Kano, and Lagos is critical to wining any election.

The NNPP presidential candidate stated that members of the Integrity Group led by governor Wike, are good people who will continue to do the right thing, and will be judged by posterity based on what they do

On his part, Commissioner for Works, Dr Dakorinima Alabo George-Kelly said the Mgbuitanwo Internal Roads is 39300 square meters , has 200 millimeters thickness, with 50 millimeters binder course, 50 millimeters waring course fitted with street light and drains.

Principal, teachers, nurse kidnapped by terrorists in Irele Ekiti

Gunmen on Monday kidnapped four persons along Oke Ako-Irele Road in the Ajoni Local Council Development Area of Ekiti State.Sources said the victims included the principal of a secondary school in the area, two teachers and a nurse with a primary health care centre, who were returning home at the close of work.

The PUNCH learnt that the kidnappers waylaid the four persons and whisked them to the forest, leaving the principal’s vehicle on the road.

A source at Irele Ekiti said, “There is anger in the LCDA here. These kidnap incidents and attacks are worrisome. Nobody is sure of his safety again. We need help; something has to be done urgently to guarantee the security of our people in the homes, streets, farms and roads.”

The Chairman, Ajoni LCDA, Michael Ogungbemi, who lamented the incident, said the security agency of the council in conjunction with men of the police, hunters and Amotekun corps had been mobilised to comb the bushes and forests in the area.

Ogungbemi said, “When I got the report, I quickly mobilised men of Operation Ebborac to begin forest combing at Irele and Oke Ako. I also reported the matter to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ikole Police Division; his men are also here combing the bush so that we can waylay these people in the forest.

“We have also mobilised Operation Ebborac operatives in the neighbouring towns of Itapaji, and Iyemero and hunters as well to begin forest combing so that we can nab them in the thick forest where they are keeping the people. We believe that before daybreak, we should be able to apprehend the criminals and release our people.”

The Commander, Ekiti Amotekun Corps, Brig. Gen. Joe Komolafe (retd), who said his men alongside men of the Nigerian Army and the police had begun search for the captives, assured that their efforts would culminate in their release.

Court Sacks APC House Of Reps Candidate Over Name Falsification

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sacked Aminu Kanta, the House of Representatives candidate for the Babura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa State, in the 2023 general elections.Justice Emeka Nwite sacked Kanta who was declared the winner of the primary election in the state for submitting a false name.

The court hence declared Alhaji Isa Dogonyaro, as the lawful candidate for the APC House of Representatives primary.

Kanta had previously claimed his name was Ahmed Mohammed – a claim which Dogonyaro challenged in court, while alleging that Kanta contested the primary election under a false name.

The plaintiff had approached the court, through his Counsel, Sunusi Musa Esq., to decide whether or not by the combined provisions of Section 66(1)(i) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) (1999 Constitution) and Section 29(5) and (6) of the Electoral Act 2022, a candidate who has given false information in relation to his Constitutional requirements to contest an election is liable to be disqualified from contesting the said election.

He also prayed the court to decide whether or not by the combined provisions of section 66(1)(i) of the 1999 Constitution and section 29(5) and (6) of the Electoral Act 2022, the 3rd Respondent has given false information in relation to his name, when he claimed that his name is Aminu Kanta and that Ahmed Mohammed is his former name, in the Affidavit in Suppor of Personal Particulars submitted to the 1st Respondent as the candidate of the 2nd Respondent for the seat of Member of the House of Representatives, representing Babura/Garki Federal Constituency in the 2023 General Elections.

He also prayed the court for a declaration that in view of the combined provisions of Section 66(1)(i) of the 1999 Constitution, and Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act, 2022, the 3rd Respondent has submitted false information as it relates to his Constitutional requirements for eligibility to contest the election for the seat of Member, House of Representatives for Babura/Garki Federal constituency in the 2023 General Elections.

In his judgement, Justice Nwite declared that Aminu Kanta gave false information in relation to his name, when he claimed that Ahmed Mohammed was his former name in the affidavit in support of personal particulars submitted to the 1st Respondent (INEC) as the candidate of the 2nd Respondent (APC) for the seat of Member of the House of Representatives.

Nwite said, “That an order of this Honourable Court is hereby made, disqualifying the 3rd Respondent (Aminu Kanta) from contesting for the seat of Member of the House. of Representatives, representing Babura/Gorki Federal Constituency in the 2023 General Elections, as a candidate of the 2nd Respondent.

"That an order of this Honourable Court is hereby made declaring the Plaintiff the candidate of the 2nd Respondent for Babura/Garki Federal Constituency in the 2023 General Elections; the Plaintiff having scored the second highest number of votes at the Primary Election conducted by the 2nd Respondent for the seat of Member of the House of Representatives, representing Babura/Gorki Federal Constituency.

"That an order of this Honourable Court is hereby made directing the 1st Respondent to substitute the name of the 3rd Respondent with the name of the Plaintiff as the candidate of the 2nd Respondent for Babura/Garki Federal Constituency in the 2023 General Elections; the Plaintiff having scored the second highest number of votes at the Primary Election conducted by the 2nd Respondent for the seat of Member of the House of Representatives, representing Babura/Garki Federal Constituency."

I Regret Not Forming Alliance With Peter Obi – Kwankwaso

Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, says it’s quite unfortunate that the alliance between his party and Labour party didn’t materialise.Former Anambra state governor, Peter Obi, is the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.Kwankwaso expressed his regret when he spoke at at a forum with the Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, and senior journalists in Lagos on Sunday.

Kwankwaso said if the alliance had worked there would not have been current contemplation that there might be a run-off presidential poll in 2023 because he and Obi would have won by a landslide.

He said the alliance didn’t see the light of the day because of the insistence of the Labour Party team that power must return to the south.

His words: “I thought the alliance would be good. If we had done that nobody will be talking about a second ballot in 2023. At our discussions the issue was who will be the presidential candidate and vice presidential candidate.

Both parties raised negotiation committees. Our team was led by Buba Galadima. The committees looked at age, educational qualification, office held and experience.

At the end the other committee did not want to go with this, they talked about power shifting to the South and to the South-East. Nigeria has gone beyond that, nobody can be president of Nigeria now based on ethnic and regional considerations.”

Nigeria may be in for another breakthrough in oil exploration as the first of such activities debut in the North on the Kolmani River range spanning Bauchi and Gombe states with fresh 1 billion barrel oil reserve generating over N32 trillion, when developed.Daily Trust, at the weekend, confirmed from multiple sources at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC) that President Muhammadu Buhari will on Tuesday supervise the first oil drilling in the North. An official said that the oil finding activity would be the first major oil exploration since NNPC transformed into a commercially viable entity.

Drilling on the Kolmani Oil Prospecting Licence (OPL) 809 and 810 at the Kolmani field sites in Bauchi and Gombe will be the first oil drilling in Northern Nigeria after oil discovery in commercial volume was announced nearly two years ago.

2023 Is Nobody's Turn, Someone Thinks Become VP Will Make Him President - Kwankwaso

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has said anyone who says 2023 is his turn is making a mistake.

Although Kwankwaso did not mention the name of any candidate, the context indicates that he made a veiled reference to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In the build up to the APC Primaries, Tinubu had said having assisted different persons to key positions in government, it was his turn.

The controversial remark caught headlines and trended on social media for a long time.

But speaking in Lagos on Sunday, Kwankwaso said 2023 election is going to be different.

He also asked Nigerians not to vote a candidate who is unhealthy, alleging that some persons were plotting to become president through a similar way Dr Goodluck Jonathan emerged following the death of former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

“People are not talking about parties. They are talking about candidates and individuals. The APC and PDP have failed Nigerians. That is why we are in this mess today. I am ready for debates. Some of them are our seniors. You cannot cheat nature. Anybody who says 2023 is his turn is making a huge mistake.”

Cyber – Fraud: Seventeen Convicted in Oyo, Ogun

The Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction and sentencing of seventeen internet fraudsters before Justices Bayo Taiwo, Ladoke Akintola, and Mohammed Owolabi of the State High Court, Ibadan, Oyo State and Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu of Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta, on a separate one count charge each.The jail terms range from two to nine months community service, and one year in prison.

The convicts are Oduola Kunmi Ireola, Igbamidun Joshua Olamiposi, Ismael Fatai Olatunji, Osundele Oladapo Daniel, Olawale Isaac Adeleke, Olorunyomi Idowu Babatunde, Aneh Ojonimi, Olaide Iyanuoluwa Sadare, Akintola Babatunde Rasheed, Jamiu Babatunde Salam, Aluko Abayomi Oluwadamilare, Bello Ridwan Ayobami, Maleek Michael Ibrahim, Arasi Oluwaseun Tobi, Ganiu Fawaz Olalekan, Bello Ayoinde Olamilekan and Abiodun Taiwo Kareem.

They all pleaded ‘guilty’ to the one count charge filed against each one of them by the EFCC.

Consequently, prosecution counsel, Modupe Akinkoye, Oyelakin Oyediran, Oluwatoyin Owodunni, Musa Galadanchi, Abdulrasheed Suleiman, Mabas Mabur, and Samsudeen Bashir reviewed the facts of the cases and urged the courts to convict and sentence the defendants as charged.

Osundele was convicted and sentenced to one year imprisonment while Arasi, Ganiu and Ibrahim bagged nine months jail term each.

Also, Akintola was convicted and sentenced to nine months community service, Oduola, Jamiu, Aluko and Bello to six months community service each while Igbamidun and Kareem bagged five months community service each.

Furthermore, Olatunji was convicted and sentenced to four months community service, Ayorinde to two months community service while Olorunyomi, Ojonimi, Sadare were convicted and fined N100, 000. 00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) each and Adeleke to N150, 000 .00 (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) fine.

Justice Bayo Taiwo ordered that Osundele Oladapo Daniel pay the sum of $16, 671. 00USD in restitution and forfeit one white colour Toyota Venza car worth N7million to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Other convicts were also ordered to restitute their victims and forfeit all items recovered from them the government.

2023: Vote Only Tinubu - South-West Muslims

Muslims from the South West region under the umbrella of Muslim Ummah of South West of Nigeria (MUSWEN), have enjoined their kinsmen not to vote for any other presidential candidates apart from Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State is the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 presidential election.

MUSWEN has advised Muslims in the six states that make up South West region- Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti and Lagos – not to support any other person apart from Tinubu.

MUSWEN President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, made this disclosure while speaking during the 7th General Assembly of the organisation held in Ibadan on Sunday.

Oladejo while speaking with journalists, said that the position of MUSWEN which is the umbrella body of Muslims in the region is that Muslims in the region should support Tinubu.

Wike Receives NNPP’s Kwankwaso Ahead Of Project Inauguration

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Sunday night, welcomed the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso to Port Harcourt, the state capital, ahead of the inauguration of the Mgbutanwo Internal Roads in the Emohua Local Government Area on Monday.Wike had invited politicians from opposition parties to commission projects in the oil-rich South-South state. The Rivers governor had said he invited opposition politicians to commission projects in his state for them to see firsthand and tell their party men.

Ekiti Assembly Impeaches Speaker, Elects first Female Speaker

The Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan has been impeached.Aribisogan was impeached on Monday and suspended indefinitely by seventeen (17) lawmakers for allegedly blocking the passage of the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Bill.

He was immediately replaced by the Assembly Chief Whip, Rt. Hon. Olubunmi Adelugba from Emure Constituency, who was unanimously elected new Speaker by all the 17 lawmakers present at a plenary presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hakeem Jamiu.

The oath of office and the oath of allegiance were subsequently administered on Mrs. Adelugba, who became the first female Speaker in the history of the Assembly since return to democracy in 1999.

The new Speaker thanked her colleagues for finding her worthy to be elected as Speaker, promising not to take the trust and confidence reposed in her for granted. She later adjourned sittings of House sine die (indefinitely).

Six other lawmakers in the Assembly were also slammed with suspension for compromising the process of the election that produced Aribisogan as Speaker on November 15, among other alleged unpatriotic and unparliamentary conduct capable of threatening the peace of the state.

Aribisogan and the six erring lawmakers were also barred from the vicinity of the House of Assembly Complex within the radius of 145 days for their acts which, according to their colleagues, offend the provisions of the House Standing Rules and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The six lawmakers suspended and barred alongside the impeached Speaker are Hon. Tajudeen Akingbolu (Ekiti West 1), Hon. Tope Ogunleye (Ilejemeje), Hon. Ajibade Adeyemi (Moba 1), Hon. Adekemi Balogun (Ado 1), Hon. Yemi Ayokunle (Ekiti Southwest 1) and Hon. Adegoke Olajide (Efon).

The legislative penalties meted out to Aribisogan and six others followed the consideration and adoption of the report of a six-member Adhoc Investigative Committee constituted to look into the circumstances surrounding the non-passage of the 2022 Appropriation Bill which they said could cripple governance in the state.

Jamiu who presided over the plenary until the election of Mrs. Adelugba, had earlier dissolved all existing principal positions and appointed Hon. Johnson Oyekola Bode-Adeoye as the new Leader of Government Business while he also resuscitated the already dissolved Committee on Appropriation.

Speaking at the plenary on the terms of the punishment on Aribisogan and six others, Deputy Speaker Jamiu explained that the impeached Speaker Aribisogan and six others were suspended without pay with immediate effect and they are barred from 1.5km radius of the premises of the House.

Jamiu also added that the axed lawmakers are to hand over properties of government in their possession to the Clerk of the House and anyone of them wishing to be reabsorbed must write a letter of apology to the leadership of the House

Apart from the allegations contained in the report of the adhoc investigative committee, Jamiu also frowned at the impeached Speaker for denigrating the image of the House by taking the internal affairs of the state legislature to the conventional media and social media an act he described as unacceptable.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee, Hon. Bode-Adeoye, had earlier laid the report of the findings of the panel before the lawmakers which was unanimously adopted before the impeachment process against Aribisogan and the suspension of six others commenced.

The Committee found Aribisogan and the six other legislators culpable as a result of their unpatriotic acts that stalled the passage of the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Bill recommending the impeachment and indefinite suspension of the ex-Speaker from office with immediate effect.

The Committee also recommended the indefinite suspension of the six legislators for various unparliamentary acts which they allegedly carried out in cahoots with the deposed Speaker.

The alleged offences include causing disaffection, tension and apprehension among Assembly members whose voted were not allowed to count at the November 15 election of new Speaker to replace the late former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye.

The new Speaker thanked her colleagues for finding her worthy to be elected as Speaker, promising not to take the trust and confidence reposed in her for granted. She later adjourned sittings of House sine die (indefinitely).

Six other lawmakers in the Assembly were also slammed with suspension for compromising the process of the election that produced Aribisogan as Speaker on November 15, among other alleged unpatriotic and unparliamentary conduct capable of threatening the peace of the state.

Aribisogan and the six erring lawmakers were also barred from the vicinity of the House of Assembly Complex within the radius of 145 days for their acts which, according to their colleagues, offend the provisions of the House Standing Rules and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The six lawmakers suspended and barred alongside the impeached Speaker are Hon. Tajudeen Akingbolu (Ekiti West 1), Hon. Tope Ogunleye (Ilejemeje), Hon. Ajibade Adeyemi (Moba 1), Hon. Adekemi Balogun (Ado 1), Hon. Yemi Ayokunle (Ekiti Southwest 1) and Hon. Adegoke Olajide (Efon).

The legislative penalties meted out to Aribisogan and six others followed the consideration and adoption of the report of a six-member Adhoc Investigative Committee constituted to look into the circumstances surrounding the non-passage of the 2022 Appropriation Bill which they said could cripple governance in the state.

Jamiu who presided over the plenary until the election of Mrs. Adelugba, had earlier dissolved all existing principal positions and appointed Hon. Johnson Oyekola Bode-Adeoye as the new Leader of Government Business while he also resuscitated the already dissolved Committee on Appropriation.

Speaking at the plenary on the terms of the punishment on Aribisogan and six others, Deputy Speaker Jamiu explained that the impeached Speaker Aribisogan and six others were suspended without pay with immediate effect and they are barred from 1.5km radius of the premises of the House.

Jamiu also added that the axed lawmakers are to hand over properties of government in their possession to the Clerk of the House and anyone of them wishing to be reabsorbed must write a letter of apology to the leadership of the House

Apart from the allegations contained in the report of the adhoc investigative committee, Jamiu also frowned at the impeached Speaker for denigrating the image of the House by taking the internal affairs of the state legislature to the conventional media and social media an act he described as unacceptable.

Man Beats Wife To Death Over Property

An Ogun man, Segun Omotosho Ebenezer, has beaten his wife, Bukola, to death over her refusal to hand over a primary school she built in her name to him.According to the Ogun State Police Command, the suspect and the deceased had been quarrelling over the property before he beat her to death.

Police in a statement released on Monday said that the man had been arrested after he ran away when a voice note that his wife sent to her relatives was played in his hearing.

Unknown to the suspect, the deceased had sent a voice note to her family members, informing them that her husband has used a padlock to hit her on the head while beating her and that if she died, they should be aware that it was her husband that killed her.

Nigerian Community Contributes N20Million ‘Peace Deal Fee’ For Notorious Terrorist, Bello Turji

Residents of Gidan Goga town in the Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State are reportedly contributing the sum of N20 million to give to the notorious terrorist leader, Bello Turji as a form of a "peace deal fee" to free their town from him.

Bello Turji Kachalla, popularly known as Turji, is a notorious Nigerian terrorist and bandit leader who has been operating in northern Nigerian states including Zamfara, Sokoto and Niger.

The 28-year-old terrorist leader allegedly led a bandit gang attack from January 4 to 6, 2022, where over 200 people including women and children were massacred by bandits in Zamfara State.

“People in the community are raising N20 million to give to Bello Turji to strike a form of peace deal with him so that there won’t be attacks here again,” a resident told SaharaReporters.

"The community hopes this will end attacks," another resident confirmed the situation.

Girlfriend arrested for stabbing boyfriend to death

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a lady, Esther Paul, for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend, Sadiq Dahiru, to death at Amusa Street, Agungi, in the Lekki area of the state.PUNCH Metro gathered that Dahiru’s stepfather, Kazeem Obafunso, after being briefed that his stepson had been stabbed by his girlfriend, reported the incident at the Ilasan Police Station.

It was learnt that policemen detailed to investigate the case rushed Dahiru to Evercare Hospital where a doctor on duty confirmed him dead.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the development, said Paul had been arrested, adding that Dahiru’s corpse had been deposited in the IDH mortuary in the Yaba area of the state for autopsy.

He added, “Preliminary investigation is ongoing; the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.” Meanwhile, Hudenyin, in a statement on Sunday, confirmed the arrest of a 28-year-old serial kidnapper, Joy Kolapo, for allegedly kidnapping a three-year-old boy, identified simply as Bright, in the Ejigbo area of the state.

Hundeyin said, “Following painstaking investigation and intelligence gathering into the abduction of a three-year-old boy, Bright, on October 27, 2022, in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State, detectives of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lagos State Command, have arrested one serial kidnapper, Joy Kolapo.

“The suspect was arrested in the Omi Adio area of Oyo State on November 12, 2022 with another victim, one Moses, 7, whom she had kidnapped in the Olopo Meta area of Oyo state.

Investigation led to the rescue of Bright in Akute area of Ogun State the same day the suspect was arrested.”
