Police Trace Stolen Dog To Pepper Soup Pot Ready For Customers

Police detectives from the Idimu Division, Lagos State, have arrested a dog meat seller, Success Akpan, after a stolen dog was traced to his pepper soup pot, which he was already selling to his customers before he was caught.it was gathered that the incident happened at Olorunsogo Street, Ejigbo area of Lagos, where Akpan operates a shop.

When the Akwa Ibom State born Akpan was caught, he claimed that he bought the dog for N12,000 from a seller, who was later identified as Abu and did not know it was a stolen dog.

The suspect, Akpan, landed in trouble after the seller, Abu, stole the dog from his mother’s tenant in Idimu, who had refused to pay his house rent.

He allegedly stole the dog and sold to Akpan before the information leaked and he was arrested. He was detained by the Police and told to bring the dog back.

It was during interrogation that the suspect, Abu, confessed and took the Police to Akpan’s shop. But before they got there, Akpan had already killed the dog and used it to prepare pepper soup.

The leader of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, South-East chapter, Gidado Siddiki, has appealed to the Central Bank of Nigeria to extent the deadline given for the circulation of the country’s new currencies.Siddiki made the call in an interview with journalists in Awka, on Thursday, said the December 15, 2022, deadline should be extended for another three months to enable members of the association bring out their money from the forests to avoid huge losses on their part.

He said the appeal became necessary because according to him, the group are majorly living in forest and bushes as a result of their business, they needed more time to bring out their savings for proper transformation to the new redesigned notes.

The Central Bank of Nigeria had announced the redesigning of the three highest currency denominations of N200, N500 and N1,000 notes.

Asake’s Fans Laments Concert Ticket Prices

Nigerian singer, Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has been trending after the prices for his Lagos concert surfaced online.The concert which is scheduled to hold in December had prices for tables and VIP only. No regular tickets.

Tickets for tables will sell for between three million naira to 10 million naira while the VIP tickets, where the holders will stand throughout the show, will be available for N70, 000 only.

This has caused a lot of Nigerians to react with most lamenting how expensive the ticket prices are. 

Lamenting how he has been budgeting for the show, Roni Elemi said, “I actually feel really betrayed by the prices of Asake’s ticket. I’ve tried to play it cool all day but I am really sad.

Another long time associate of the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mueez Akande has died. Akande was also the brother-in-law to Tinubu’s wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. Akande was linked to drug trafficking business in the United States of America along with Bola Ahmed Tinubu.The deceased was 72 years. Akande was the husband of Lola Akande, a sister to Oluremi, and current Lagos State Commissioner of Commerce, Industry, and Co-Operatives. The death of the septuagenarian was confirmed by the bereaved wife.The death of the medical doctor, a close friend and confidant of Tinubu, brings to two, business and political associates of the APC national leader who have died in the last 48 hours.

Akande was mentioned in the Certified True Copy of the court documents, which included the judgement delivered by Magistrate John Nordberg of a United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, was dated August 10, 2022, and signed by Thomas Bruton and Johnny Khuu, both Clerk and Deputy Clerk, respectively, of US District Court, Northern District of Illinois.The documents revealed how Tinubu and his associates were involved in the distribution of white heroin and money laundering between 1988 and 1992, when investigations closed in on them.According to the documents Tinubu’s involvement in the shady deal was traced to the arrest of one Abiodun Agbele, who was nephew to one Adegboyega Mueez Akande, a major drug trafficker between the US and Nigeria.The document read in part, “Beginning as early as 1998, Adegboyega Mueez Akande, with others operated an organisation which distributed white heroin, a controlled substance under Title 21 of the United States Code.

“This distribution operation was conducted on a large scale and the proceeds of the operation substantial.”In a Verified Complaint for Forfeiture of funds in several accounts linked to Tinubu in First Heritage Bank and Citibank in the US, a United States Attorney, Michael Shepard, had narrated how Tinubu opened about 10 accounts in the name of Bola Tinubu and Compass Finance and Investment Limited in late December 1989 and January 1990, wherein he deposited funds far in excess of his earnings in Mobil Oil, where he was working at the time.

Some of the bank account numbers were 263226700 (First Heritage Bank), 39483134, 39483396, 4650279566 (Citibank N.A), and 52050 – 89451951, 52050 – 89451952 and 52050 – 89451953 (Citibank International) all in the US.Shepard noted that the funds in Tinubu’s accounts were suspected to represent proceeds of drugs or property involved in money laundering, hence the initiation of a warrant of seizure and monition was requested from the court.

Amotekun nabs five for duping victim N2.5m

The Ekiti State Amotekun Corps has arrested five suspects in Ikere Ekiti in the Ikere Local Government Area of the state for allegedly defrauding a victim who is a resident of Abeokuta in Ogun State to the tune of N2.5million.The Corps Commander, Brig. Gen. Joe Komolafe (retd), said that the suspects, 44 years old Johnson, 52 years old Olufemi, 28 years old Aloba, 42 years old Dele and 40 years old Dayo, “are serial fraudsters, duping people around the state popularly called ‘Awo Jingini’, in local parlance.”

Komolafe, who spoke in Ado Ekiti while parading the suspects, said that the suspects were arrested in a shrine in Ikere Ekiti which they used to deceive innocent people and obtain them.

He said, “A colleague from Ogun State Amotekun Corps, put a call through to me that one of the people in Abeokuta was duped to a tune of about N2.5million, by a group of men in Ikere-Ekiti and they threatened to kill him.

“The five suspects were arrested in their shrine. We were able to destroy part of the shrines and we brought along part of those things they use in deceiving people

The victim, a 40 years old farmer, Udani James, who is from Benue State, but resides in Ogun State, said one of the fraudsters called him on phone and started by praying for him in the Christian faith”.

The victim said that at a time when the fraudster revealed that he was a herbalist, he told him that he was not interested again, adding, “That was how he started threatening to kill me and members of my family.”

He said that he had to come to meet the fraudster in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, as agreed before the suspects were later arrested by men of Amotekun.

Komolafe said the suspects would be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

INEC Identifies 2.7 million Unqualified Registered Voters

The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Thursday, at the end of Automated Biometric Identification System, identified 2,780,756, as the number of ineligible registrants in Kano State.The new Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano, Zango Abdu, during a meeting with members of election stakeholders said at the end of the exercise, 12,298, 944 Nigerians successfully completed the registration as new voters.

He said, “The preliminary register of voters in Kano State currently stands at 5,927,565.

“It is preliminary because Section 19 (1) and (2) of the Electoral Act 2022 requires the Commission to display the hard copies of the register of voters for each registration area (Ward) and Local Government Area (and simultaneously publish the entire register on the Commission’s website) for a period of two weeks for scrutiny, claims and objections, by citizens not later than 90 days to a general election.”

Also, the REC reiterated that the commission, as mandated by law, would continue to monitor the activities of political parties, as well as track the campaign finances of all political parties as provided by Sections 83, 85, 87, 88, 90, 91,92 and 95 of the Electoral Act of 2022.

To this end, he urged politicians to critically study and pay attention to the provisions of the constitution, the Electoral Act, The Police Act and Public Order Act for the proper and peaceful conduct of political party campaigns, rallies and processions, adding that the commission would continue to track the campaign finances and its activities, as mandated by the law.

Similarly, the REC stressed that there would be no going back on deployment of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System for voter accreditation and the transmission of results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal on Election Day.

On a last note, he pointed out that there would be no incident form that allowed ineligible persons to vote using other person’s Permanent Voters Card during elections.

Fayose’s loyalists endorse APC candidate

Hundreds of Peoples Democratic Party chieftains and loyalists of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, have endorsed the All Progressives Congress senatorial candidate for Ekiti South, Yemi Adaramodu, for the 2023 National Assembly election.

The adoption was a fallout of the crack in the PDP, owing to the crisis between Fayose and National Assembly member, Senator Biodun Olujimi, who is the party’s candidate for the senatorial district.The PDP members from Ise/Orun and Emure local government areas of the state announced the decision to support the APC candidate for the position during a meeting at Ise Ekiti on Thursday.

They said it was time Nigerians began to vote for performing individuals regardless of party affiliations.

PDP Ekiti State Auditor, Arike Akintade, and State Assistant Youth Leader, Usman Afolabi, said their action was based on collective conviction about Adaramodu’s competence, in addition to the fact that anybody who disrespected Fayose, who is PDP leader in the state, should stand no elective stance.

Afolabi said, “As a mark of unflinching loyalty, we endorse the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the two PDP House of Representatives’ candidates in our federal constituency, Mr Akomolafe Henrich and Mrs Jennifer Emiola.

We would only vote for PDP candidates, who demonstrated loyalty to the party during the last governorship election in Ekiti,” he said.

Also, former Chairman, Ise-Orun Council, Ropo Kolawole, said, “We are not ready to vote for someone who didn’t do anything tangible to better the lots of the constituents after eight years at the Senate, so our votes will go to Hon. Adaramodu, who is present in the House of Representatives at this time.

“We are just getting it right in our politics. Any political office holder not doing well must be voted out.

“Supporting APC’s Adaramodu is not anti-party activity on our part, but it is a vote of confidence in his leadership and performance.”

PDP ward chairmen in Ise/Orun and Emure local governments areas, Gbenga Ojuawo and Banji Adeleke respectively, who spoke on behalf of ward chairmen, said that the meeting was to notify party leaders and members of their decision to vote Adaramodu in the next election.

Ojuawo and Adeleke said they could no longer vote for somebody who had no respect for them nor the party leader, adding that they had resolved to support Adaramodu, who they believed would deliver dividends of democracy to the constituency.

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Thursday, said that his administration will continue to collaborate with development partners and the private sector to promote economic growth.The governor, who stated this while receiving the British Deputy High Commissioner, Ben Llewellyn -Jones, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Governor’s Office, Agodi, Ibadan, added that government alone cannot develop the state's economy.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted the governor as saying: "For us in Oyo State, we recognise the fact that government alone cannot sort out the challenges we have.

"I am glad to have you here to also discuss business opportunities.

“We have to look at development partners, which is a big part of what we are doing. We also encourage private sector participation.

"This afternoon, we will be flagging off a project on gas infrastructure, in collaboration with Shell Nigeria Gas.

"I know of an administration that tried to carry out same project using government resources but it failed. Now, if you have a business case where the private people can come in to invest, definitely such a project will be a go.

"So, we are always happy to sit down to discuss opportunities with development partners and the private sector."

Earlier, the British Deputy High Commissioner, Ben Llewellyn-Jones told the governor that the essence of the meeting was to talk about some areas his country and Oyo State could collaborate for development.

He said: "Thank you your Excellency for making time to see me. I know how busy you are.

"It is my sixth year in Nigeria and third year in Lagos. My role is to promote UK trade, investment and economic growth across Nigeria.

"I have come to see your Excellency to talk about some of the possibilities here in Oyo State."

He also said that his team will be meeting British Companies as well as officials of the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and will also spend some time to discuss partnerships with the University of Ibadan.

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says votes of electorate will count in the 2023 general elections.He stressed that the days were gone when people ride on the confidence that because they are from a majority tribe, they will always win election.

Governor Wike spoke at the inauguration of the Nkpolu-Oroworukwo flyover, the 9th so far constructed and completed by his administration. Peter Obi, the labour party presidential candidate performed the inauguration in Mile two Diobu, Port Harcourt on Thursday.

The Rivers State governor observed that there are so many people who had left office for years and have gathered around a political actor in their desperation to force themselves back to power

"All they want to do, let us get the opportunity to come back to power. Nigerians, we must open our eyes. You (politicians) must sell yourself; this is me. You must not sell yourself because you belong to a major ethnic group. Every vote in this country will count.

"Time is over when anybody thinks that you can win election because you're from so and so place. Nigeria has past that stage. We want a Nigeria that all of us believe that we are from here. We want a Nigeria that I have hope that I can become anything tomorrow, not because I came from a small place."

Governor Wike also spoke, making reference to assurances some political actors made during a town hall meeting where they agreed to implement the restructuring of the country.

The political actors, governor Wike noted also condemned the situation where all the service chiefs are people from one section of the country.

The governor wondered why they waited for over seven years, until this political season, to begin to speak out against such sessional appointments of service chiefs.

"Some people come to tell me support so and so persons and I ask them do you know him? When I hear people go to town hall meetings and they say all kinds of things they say. They said they will implement restructuring. They will make sure that every zone will have a member in the security council. That, it is not good for one zone to produce all the security chiefs. You see that, but it is good for one zone to occupy all party positions. You see how Nigerians are? You see how we are?"

Governor Wike mocked persons in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who are calling for his dismissal from the party. According to him, those clamouring for his dismissal ironically left the party, frustrated its electoral chances and made it to lose the 2015 election.

"Those who are threatening me are those who destroyed PDP and made us lose election in 2015. I stood firm in this party when this party was to die. Peter Obi, you were there in the party then.

"I was the one with my friends who supported this party. Those who left the party are the ones coming to tell me that I want to scatter the party when you(they) have scattered the party and made us lose election in 2015. Now we are in opposition. Who put us in opposition?"

Governor Wike said that everybody knows him that he is not a conman, but a straight forward politician who want the best for Nigeria.

The Rivers State governor commended his guest, Peter Obi for leaving the PDP and the frustrations meted at him to pursue his political ambition.

Governor Wike, however, restated his resolve to remain in the PDP, and doggedly fight those he described as vampire, armed robbers and scavengers.

“I will not leave. I will stay here, I will fight the vampires, I will fight hyaenas, I will fight the scavengers. I will not leave this house. I will never allow armed robbers to takeover my house. I am going to stay to chase away the armed robbers.”

The governor advised all political parties to obey the Executive Order 22 and 21 issued by him. He insisted that any political party that wants to use public school for campaign must obtain permission from the Commissioner of Education.

Governor Wike offered to provide logistic support to Mr Peter Obi whenever he visits Rivers State for his presidential campaign.

The Rivers State governor urged the Labour Party presidential candidate to ignore envious persons from his home State who are hellbent to distract him in his pursuit for the presidency.

Performing the inauguration, Mr Peter Obi expressed gratitude to governor Wike for his large heart to extend invitation to him to open the Nkpolu-Oroworukwo flyover for use by the public.

“Nobody in this country can doubt your performance. Anybody who does so, does not admit what is good. You have worked for your people, you have worked for Nigeria and you have done everything anybody could achieve. Most importantly, you have remained consistently consistent in positions you have taken.

“What is lacking in our country today is character, competence and capacity. In all these you have shown it as a State governor.”

Obi pointed out that 18 presidential candidates are gearing up to contest the 2023 election but Nigerians are looking for men of character, competence and capacity including those who have used previous opportunities to offer service profitably.

“I assure you of our commitment to build a better Nigeria. our past will not be our future. Those people are our past. I and Datti (Baba-Ahmed) represent the future of Nigeria. And I have told Nigerians, hold me responsible. I know what it takes to turn around this country. I will not give excuse. I will change Nigeria.”

Providing the description of the project, Commissioner for Works, Dr. George-Kelly Dakorinima Alabo said the Nkpolu-Oroworukwo flyover is 993 meters long, with a pavement width on both sides as 7.5 meters each.

Dr. Alabo assured that with the flyover, there will be ease of doing business, reduced traffic congestion in the area and serve as effective diversion of vehicular movement in that part of the city

Two thousand South eastern businessmen have contributed N1 billion to support the campaign of Asíwájú Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress.Governor Hope Uzodimma made this known Thursday at the Town Hall meeting between Tinubu and business leaders in the region.

He said membership of the group was drawn from the five states of the region.

"I am happy to say our people are fully in support of our Presidential candidate who has come to share his vision and plan for Nigeria and South East today. To support this aspiration the sum of N1billion naira has been raised by 2000 business owners across the South East states," said Governor Uzodimma.

A spokesman for the group Emeka Mgbudem said the group believes in Nigeria and is committed to peace.

He said members contributed N500,000 each because they believe in Tinubu, after reading his Action Plan for Nigeria.

He said where an Ibo man puts his money, he puts his heart.

He however asked Tinubu to remove the numerous checkpoints on the roads in the region and also build the roads linking the state capitals in the region.

Responding, Tinubu pledged to introduce technology in the clearing of goods at the ports that will render unnecessary the checkpoints on the roads.

He also promised to run a government where all Nigerians are treated equally.

Governors Are Responsible For Political Violence In The Country - IGP Baba

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Usman Baba, has blamed the increasing incidences of political violence in the country on some state governors.Mr Baba said this during a meeting with leadership of political parties and other stakeholders on Thursday in Abuja.

He said the meeting was called to engage political parties’ leadership on the increasing trend of political violence and to present a common front in addressing the issues.

“We have been receiving reports of some State Governors who encourage political thugs.

“They use sub-national security outfits under their control to disrupt seamless and statutorily guaranteed campaign activities of parties or candidates with whom they hold opposing political views.

“In so doing, they deploy their powers and influence to either prevent the mounting of campaign bill boards or pull them down.

“They also denying political opponents of spaces to undertake their campaigns or peaceful political congregations in contravention of the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 (As amended),” he said

133 million Nigerians Are Living In Poverty - FG

The Federal Government has disclosed that 63 percent of persons within Nigeria, 133 million, are living in poverty. The figure was presented during the launch of Nigeria’s Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) Survey in Abuja on Thursday.

It was conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the National Social Safety-Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI).

Daily Trust reports that the measure used to calculate the figure was based on Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) with five components of health, living standard, education, security and unemployment.

The survey, which sampled over 56,000 households across the 36 states of the Federation and the FCT, conducted between November 2021 and February 2022, states that 65 per cent of the poor, 86 million people, live in the North, while 35 percent, nearly 47 million live in the South.

It identified Sokoto State as having the most poverty levels across States, with 91 percent while Ondo has the lowest with 27 percent.

Lagos Police Arrest Ex-convict Hours After Release From Prison

An ex-convict, Yakub Yusuf, 23, has been arrested hours after he was released from prison.

According to a statement by the Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin on Thursday, men of the Rapid Response Squad arrested Yusuf on Saturday morning. He was released from prison custody on Friday, after a non-governmental organisation paid his fine upon conviction for stealing at the Lagos State fuel dump, Alausa, Ikeja on November 1, 2022.

On Saturday, Yusuf was arrested again after breaking into Lagos State Fire Service premises. This time, he stole valve covers of old fire truck under repairs.

2023: Wike Pledges ‘Logistics Support’ For Peter Obi’s Campaign

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Thursday pledged to provide “logistics support” for the campaigns of Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.Wike also said Obi, a former Anambra State governor, has all the characteristic to lead Nigeria.

The Rivers governor made this known to the LP presidential candidate in Port Harcourt, the state capital, at the venue of the Nkpolu-Oroworokwo Flyover inauguration.

“Each time you want to campaign in the state, let me know, all the logistics support, we will give to you,” Wike told Obi.

Wike said though he knew the humiliation Obi suffered before he left the PDP for the Labour Party, he won’t leave the party but chase out the “armed robbers”.

“I know the humiliation you suffered. Nobody will hear what you pass through and stay in the party but I will not leave. I will stay and fight.

“I won’t leave this house. I will never allow armed robbers to take over this house. I will stay and chase away armed robbers.

“So, thank God because if you have not left, you would not have realised your ambition to be able to save Nigeria,” Wike told Obi.

Excited crowd welcomes Tinubu, Shettima to Imo

A team of excited members and supporters on Thursday welcomed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate Senator Kashim Shettima to Owerri, the capital of Imo State.Shout of Jagbaban rented the air as soon as Tinubu entered The Landmark Event Centre, Owerri, the venue of a town hall meeting with stakeholders.

Party faithful, businessmen and women, traders started trooping into the venue of the town hall meeting as early as 8am.

Security operatives are having tough moment trying to control thousands of people struggling to enter the event centre amidst tight screening at the gate.

Tinubu and his entourage entered the venue at exactly 2: 13pm to a rousing shout of Jagaban.
