I Will Use Obi’s Anambra Governance Model To Cut Costs – Abia Governor-Elect Otti

Abia State Governor-Elect, Alex Otti has said that he will run Peter Obi's model of governance in the state

I Will Use Obi’s Anambra Governance Model To Cut Costs – Abia Governor-Elect Otti

When asked if he will cut the cost of governance during Channels Television, Politics Today, he said, “Absolutely, I have time and time again, spoken out about cost of governance being a major problem in the country and it applies to the federal government as well as it applies to state governments and all the way to local governments.

“I believe that my presidential candidate [Peter Obi] did very well in Anambra because he reined in cost of governance and it's the same kind of model that we are going to run in Abia.

“There is only so many jobs you can create in the public sector. When you are appointing 12,000 personal assistants and special assistants, who basically don't have an office but collect money at the end of the month, you're just creating a problem for yourself.

“So, we are going to run a very lean government, we are going to cut our cloth according to our size, we believe that it is the private sector that should be supported to create jobs.

“Whatever it takes to support the private sector, we will do exactly that.

“We are not going to run a bogus government, we are not going to get ourselves involved in very high cost of travels.”

Egyptian Referee Suspended For Using Spectator’s Phone To Review Goal

An Egyptian referee, Mohamed Farouk, has been suspended indefinitely by the country's FA, after allegedly disallowing a goal after looking at footage on a spectator's phone.

Egyptian Referee Suspended For Using Spectator’s Phone To Review Goal

Mohamed Farouk took charge of an Egyptian Second Division clash between Al-Nasr and Suez on Friday and in the absence of VAR, relied on an alternative system to get a second look at a late goal.

With the hosts Suez 2-1 up heading into the final few minutes, Al-Nasr scored a dramatic equaliser to earn a point on the road.

However, after vociferous protests from home supporters, Farouk was invited to use a fan's phone to watch a replay of the goal before ruling it out for handball to deny the visitors an away point at Suez on Friday.

Dailymail reports that as a result of his actions, Farouk has come in for hefty punishment, with the head of the Egyptian Referees Committee, Vitor Pereira, deciding to suspend the referee and his entire matchday staff for 'an indefinite period'.

Pereira replaced former veteran Premier League official Mark Clattenburg in the role with the ERC earlier in March.

Pereira's action was confirmed by the Egyptian FA, who added, “The committee decided to investigate the incident when Mohamed Farouk, the referee of the match, used a mobile phone to review footage of the match's events.”

Fasting: Sultan Declares Thursday 1st Ramadan 1444AH

Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has declared Thursday, March 23, as the first day of the Ramadan 1444 AH in Nigeria.

Fasting: Sultan Declares Thursday 1st Ramadan 1444AH

Abubakar announced the sighting of the new crescent in Sokoto on Wednesday in a radio and television broadcast.

He said the new moon was sighted in different parts of the country and that reports of the moon sighting were received from Muslim leaders and organisations from across the country.

“After due verification and authentication by the national moon sighting committee and states committees’ confirmation, as well as routine scrutiny, I hereby announce the sighting of the new moon of Ramadan signifying the end of Sha’aban 1444 AH.

”In accordance with Islamic law, Muslims are to commence fasting on Thursday accordingly,” he declared.

The sultan however urged Muslim faithful to devote themselves fully to the worship of Allah throughout the holy month, urging them to use the period to pray for the progress, peace and prosperity of the nation.

“We have chosen leaders that will take the affairs of our country and States in some months to come, we should continue to pray for them in order to be able to redeem their promises to us.

“No one should maltreat anyone or cause destruction that will affect our relationships, especially against those perceived to be political opponents.

“Elections have come and gone and winners have emerged as destined by God, so let every Muslim reconcile in the spirit of brotherhood, love, peace and unity.

“Islam was built on five pillars, and peace, unity and brotherhood among Muslims were basic and fundamental ingredients to strengthen the religion.

”We should not break relationships because of politics. We should live peacefully with one another irrespective of religious and tribal differences,” Abubakar said.

The Sultan also called on wealthy individuals to assist the poor and stressed the need for increased religious tolerance and brotherhood in Nigeria.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar in which Muslim faithful observe one month fast.

Fasting in the month of Ramadan is a compulsory religious obligation for all adult Muslims.

Controversial Anambra pastor, Chukwuemeka Ohanere, popularly known as Odumeje, has said he will die soon, having completed his work on earth.

Controversial Anambra Pastor, Odumeje Claims He Has Completed His Work, Will Die Soon

The pastor came into limelight with his weird pattern of spiritual deliverance, where he carries miracle seeking members of his church in a manner akin to the WWE wrestlers, and smashes them on the floor.

He was in the news last year after he confronted officials of the Anambra State Government, who had come to demolish his church, though, He was beaten during the encounter.

During Sunday service, Odumeje, in a video circulating online, was heard telling his church members that it was time for him to go.

He said: “I have called my little son, KingDavid, and I told him that very soon, I your father will leave. You must take care of your brothers and your mother.

“I came to this world for a purpose, and that purpose has been fulfilled. I have finished my earthly ministry, and I will leave soon,” he told the congregation.

Odumeje has fought several battles, and has challenged many native doctors to open contests on their ability to perform miracles. He is 40 years old.

IPOB Amongst Top 10 Deadliest Terror Groups Worldwide: Report

The Global Terrorism Index (GTI) has ranked the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as the 10th deadliest terror group in the world in 2022.

IPOB Amongst Top 10 Deadliest Terror Groups Worldwide: Report

The GTI report, which is published annually by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), stated that indigenous group - IPOB was responsible for 57 deaths in the year 2022, from 40 attacks with 16 persons injured.

This places IPOB in the 10th position among the top 20 deadliest terror groups in 2022.

The report said “ The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), designated as a terrorist group by the Nigerian government in 2017, recorded their deadliest year in 2022.

“They were responsible for 40 attacks and 57 deaths in 2022, an increase from 26 attacks and 34 deaths the year prior. IPOB is a separatist movement with many factions, many of which are seeking a peaceful succession from Nigeria”.

“The impact of terrorism continues to decline in Nigeria; with total deaths falling by 23 per cent, decreasing from 497 in 2021 to 385 in 2022. The number of terrorist attacks in Nigeria also fell considerably, with 120 incidents recorded in 2022 compared to 214 in 2021. This is the lowest number of terror attacks and deaths since 2011,” said the report.

“The military overtook law enforcement as the most targeted group in 2022. Military personnel were targeted in a quarter of all attacks, followed by civilians at 24 per cent, and law enforcement at 18 per cent. Despite this, half of all terrorism deaths in Nigeria in 2022 were civilians”.

“ISWA is now the most prominent group in Borno State, recording 40 incidents that resulted in 168 deaths in 2022, compared to Boko Haram’s six incidents and 63 deaths”.

“The state, however, remains the hardest-hit region in Nigeria for terrorism, accounting for 60 per cent of all terror-related deaths in 2022”.

Sitting at the top of the 20 deadliest terror groups in 2022 is the Islamic State (IS). They were responsible for 1045 deaths, 410 attacks and 644 injuries.
