THEATER OF THE ABSURD:The Nigerian senate by Jimoh Rashidat Efua
Looking at the Nigerian senate in recent times,i remember the drama-text called Fate of a cockroach by Tewfiq Al-hakim,it talks about absurdity and that is clearly portrayed in the now Nigerian senate. A senate structured to represent the interest of Nigerians,make laws,over see the excess of the executive amongst other responsibilities. but looking at the Nigerian senate these days one would wonder exactly what they are doing apart from earning millions monthly and billions annually, well that's aside from all their shady side business income,no one really knows how much they earn exactly!
The senate has become an unnecessary joke,their consistent dramas in the house makes it look more like a theater than an actual house where laws are supposed to be deliberated on. Cases of killings happening all around,and a high rate of insecurity in Nigeria,and the senate is more concerned about Hammed Ali wearing a uniform,and then we have the Dino Melaye;s case who happens to be a 'senator'apparently,when this dino's case came up,it was simple as releasing a solid proof to silence critics,but no! he had to make a bizarre video which made him look and sound like a clown and then released some debatable certificates,well like the popular 'joke' goes,"if Buhari can show the Nigerian people NEPA bill as certificate and still become president,then Dino Melaye apparently has no case". Well apparently Dino went to Harvard according to him,but that's another different topic,the senate recently accused Magu of terrorizing them,they apparently don't even know how to use the word 'terrorize'.
Nigeria has become a meme,because of people who were voted-that's if they were actually voted,in my candid opinion,the senate shouldn't even exist,a referendum should be put forward for the Nigerian people to vote whether they want the senate or not,but i'm guessing a referendum for the continuation of the senate was never a bone of contention in the provision of the constitution,and there's no way those 'senators' would revise it now to add something which can take them out of 'business'. So we are pretty much stuck with them,well it's up to the electorates to decide if they want to continually keep up with a house of comedy full of unfunny clowns ...
