New Man Movement Awards cash prizes to Adeniran Adeleke, Other 2019 Writing Contest winners.

Yesterday, Monday, 10th February, members and representatives of the New Man Movement visited Oduduwa College, Ile-Ife to present cash prizes to Adeniran Adeleke, the overall winner of the 2019 writing contest.

According to an earlier release from the organisation, Adeleke emerged the overall best in the 2019 edition of the New Man Writing contest alongside Adewonuola Esther and Edechukwu Matthais.

The New Man Writing Contest is a yearly writing contest to comb out the forest of literary virginity in students of secondary schools across Nigeria. in it's fifth year, the contest has received well over 5,000 entries since inception.

Addressing the students, the representatives of the organisation, Adewumi Josephine and Adedoyin Fisayo encouraged the students' participation in self-discovery and development initiatives such as the New Man Writing Contest.

The Principal and Vice Principal of the school, Mr Sanusi Ademola and Mrs Salami Omolola, while congratulating Adeniran Adeleke, thanked and commended the efforts of the organisation.

In absentia, Nelson Vincent, President of the New Man Movement, expressed his satisfaction at the success of the writing contest. He stated that the 2020 Call for entries would be released soon. He also enjoined interested individuals to share the details of the writing contest and as well encourage young ones to write.

OAU Final Year Student sentenced to Jail for Cybercrime

A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, on Friday, sentenced an undergraduate at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Orimolade, to four months imprisonment for defrauding an American of 150 dollars.

The Judge, Justice Patricia Ajoku, in her judgement, sentenced Orimolade, based on the evidence before her and his plea bargain agreement with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

“I have considered the plea bargain agreement entered into by the convict as well as the provisions of Section 270 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 in this judgment.

“I also consider the fact that Orimolade is a very young person, preparing for his final exams at OAU and that he had shown great remorse.“However, to serve as a warning to others intending to engage in cybercrime, Orimolade is sentenced to four months in prison and the sentence starts from the date he was first arrested and detained.“All the exhibits found in his possession are hereby, forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria,” Ajoku said.

The defence counsel, Mr Austin Fadugba, had before the judgment prayed the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing his client.Earlier, counsel to the EFCC Ibadan zonal office, Mr Babatunde Sonoiki, had told the court that the convict was facing a count amended charge bordering on impersonation. Sonoiki added that the convict committed the crime on September 28, 2019 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to the prosecution, Orimolade disguised as a US citizen to one American man, Nelisa Snell, that he was deeply in love with him through the Internet.

“Snell, therefore, sent Orimolade 150 dollars, believing that he had found a lover,” Sonoiki said. The offence, he said, contravened Section 22(A) of the cybercrime law of the Federation 2006.

The International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) Award is an initiative for fostering the growth of investigative reporting in Nigeria. At the maiden edition of the annual award, three student journalists emerged winners and won cash prizes.

Ibrahim Adeyemi from Usman Dan Fodio Uinversity came first, Alfred Olufemi from the Obafemi Awolowo University came second and Solomon Oladipupo from the University of Lagos came third at the award presentation which held at Bello Dome, University of Ibadan. Respectively, the cash prize awarded was N120,000, N80,000 and 50,000.
Student journalists of honourable mention were Adejumo Kabir and Abiodun Jamiu who took the fourth and fifth position respectively.

Kunle Adebajo, an investigative reporter, represented the ICIR at the award presentation. He said the ICIR has a keen interest in developing skills for journalists as early as possible which had prompted the introduction of the competition.
Moreover, he noted that only one entry was shortlisted for the Union of Campus Journalists’ award for best investigative report. This he termed a poor culture of investigative journalism in the University of Ibadan, his alma mater.

Martins Isaac, the President of UCJ UI, commended the Executive director of the ICIR, Dayo Aiyetan for introducing the ICIR annual award. He congratulated all participants of the competition mentioning that investigative reporting demands the commitment of time and resources.

New Man Movement Announce Winners of 2019 Gospel Writing Contest

The New Man Movement has officially announced winners of her 2019 Gospel Writing Contest in a press release via her website and made available to our correspondent.

The annual Gospel Writing Contest which received entries all over Nigeria from July to October 2019 released her shortlist late last year and has now, according to the release, announced as winners, Adeniran Adeleke, Adewonuola Ifeoluwa Esther and Edechukwu Matthais who emerged as first, second and third place prize winners respectively in the 2019 edition of the New Man Writing Contest.

The New Man Writing Contest received entries from across 58 secondary schools in Nigeria with 1,012 total entries composing 346 poems, 214 prose works, 291 essays and 161 drama pieces.

Adeniran Adeleke won the first prize with his essay "African Heritage and Values" while Adewonuola Ifeoluwa Esther, followed with her poem "My name is Africa" and Edechukwu Matthais' essay "The Future of Harms and Hopes" came third place.

The judges appraised the winning entries as diverse in style with mentions to exceptional creativity, judicious use of imagery, especially seen in the skillful use of symbols and metaphors.

The New Man Writing Contest Prize, initiated in 2016, solely aims to comb the forest of literary virginity and creativity among students of secondary schools in Africa. She has received over 2,000 entries since inception, with winning entries from Ojuko Temitayo, Arukuje Olusegun, Agu Gift, Osinachi James, Onyekwelu Chinwenite Kingsley, Opeyimika Aremu, Oladoyin Ayodeji Victor, and Enomah Exploit Ebubechukwu in previous editions.

In the Press Release, Nelson Vincent Ayomitunde, the President of The New Man, a gospel media organisation congratulated the winners and enjoined the general public to anticipate the 2020 edition of the contest.

Dellasdiary set to host Children Christmas Party

It is that season of the year with high expectations from all and sundry. The mixed feeling of economic issues and yet, the need to enjoy the festivities give rise to many outdoor and fun events. Children, especially the less privileged, are not left out as they find a major place in these events. It is in the light of this that the Dellasdiary Movement is set to host a Children Christmas Party.

The Dellasdiary Movement is a Non-Governmental Organisation that focuses on less privileged children and individuals in the society.

The Children Christmas Party is a yearly programme of the Dellasdiary Movement where less privileged children are gathered to mingle and celebrate the end of the year. The children are also encouraged, advised and prayed with for the coming year and the future.

According to the organisation's public media release, this is the fourth edition of the children's party. Over the years, the Christmas party has received over 1000 children in attendance.

The theme for this year is: Love and Hope. It seeks to resonate in the heart of the children and attendees, a feeling of love as well as hope for the coming year and the future.

The Children Christmas Party is scheduled to hold on the 23rd of December, 2019 in Lagos State, Nigeria.

Having properly selected of 1,012 interesting entries in total, the New Man Writing Movement in a Press Release on the organisation website, has announced the final shortlist for the 2019 entires.

In the release signed by Mr. Nelson Vincent Ayomitunde, it confirms that this shortlist is the final from three others and sieved out from the mass collection of 214 prose works, 161 drama/short plays, 346 poems and 291 Essays that were submitted as entries from across 58 secondary schools in Nigeria.

Speaking with our reporter, the president of the New Man Movement, Mr Nelson expressed his gratitude to volunteers, individuals and members of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), members of Poets In Nigeria (PIN), members of Creative Writers Association of Nigeria (CWAN) and other literary bodies that ensured the speedy selection of the works. He also congratulated the shortlisted entrants as they proceed to the final judgment phase.

Sierra Leone Minister of Tourism, Mrs Memunatu Pratt pledges support for KDEA Awards

The KDEA team Engaged the Honourable Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs on the planning of KDEA2019.

The CEO Sahr Eric Mbayo and Mariama Sia Mbayoh, Treasurer for the Kono District Excellence Awards Arts and Entertainment Program, met with the Honourable Minister Of Tourism Madam Mrs Memunatu B. Pratt, yesterday at 4pm in her office at Kingharman Road, Freetown.

The CEO presented a comprehensive details of their last event in 2018 and informed the listening action result orientated Minister on the challenges they encountered. He also went on and informed the Minister on the increment of the award medals from 20 last year to 45 outstanding categories for this year's event in targeting the whole of Kono District, as KDEA set to celebrate All Works of Life of Kono people in all over the World for their tireless efforts in building their communities.

The early planning for KDEA2019 is because we want to avoid the few mistakes we made last year and try to work on most of them not to repeat on this year's program, said the CEO. We're also expecting international guests from America, Asia, Europe and part of Africa who are set to grace this year's event.

The Minister in her response, appreciated the team for a very laudable venture taken by these young folks who are mostly sons and daughters of Kono to revive the Kono cultural heritage and push the social life of the land not only within Sierra Leone but to the rest of Africa and the World. She told the team that she was well briefed on the outcome of the event by her then Permanent Secretary, Mr Gbetuwa. She assured the team of her support as a Minister to make 2019 event more bigger and better than last year. She advised the team on how to go about the planning more especially at this early stage. She asked the team to make a detail list of the pressing items needed and what they may want from these mobile companies, AYV and few other radio/tv stations including some cooperate institutions for sponsorship. We're set to get her confirmation as our Guest Speaker on this year's event, Said Mariama.

The meeting was very interactive with the Minster, pictures were taken and guess what was offered? Thank you Madam Minister, with a broad smile on Mariama's face.

Kono District Excellence Awards set to Celebrate Merits, Societal Relevance

The Kono District Excellence Awards and recognition programs, popular as KDEA in Kono District, Sierra Leone is set to celebrate merit and societal relevance through its yearly award and recognition platform.

The founder and CEO OF THE kdea, Sahr Eric Mbayo of the KDEA restated this in a conversation with our correspondent.
