Vice President Osinbajo Presides over First NEC's Virtual Meeting

Nigeria's vice president, Professor Yemi Osibanjo (SAN) on Thursday, May 21 presides over the first National Economic Council (NEC) virtual meeting since the outbreak of the coronavirus. It was gathered that the minister for finance, Hajia Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed was physically present at the meeting, while the 36 state governors attended the meeting virtually.

The council which is constitutionally headed by the vice president meets monthly to deliberate on the coordination of economic planning and programmes of various levels of government. The council is made up of the secretary to the government of the federation, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Nigeria's 36 state governors, minister of finance, head of the civil service of the federation, and other government officials whose duties are hinged on economy.
