The Vogue Series: How to Smell Nice In Summer and Eradicate Body odour in Hot weather (2)

Smelling good is always a serious business because you do not want your body to get mad at you, once it gets mad at you, it starts smelling and that isn't pleasant at all.

As a recap of the last Edition, you really have to put it in mind that it is not only your skin that gives rise to body odour. The entirety of your body does, and this include areas like your hair, female and male versions of the pubic area, the legs, the armpit bla bla bla. Likewise, your internal well being can also affect your own body odour which depends on many factors like food, diet, metabolism, genes, level of stress and others. Let's continue from where we paused...

8. Fabrics to Use and Avoid

Avoid any fabric that is going to cling or trap heat. A perfect example is a black coloured clothing. Not only are these clothing items begging for sweat stains, they can also absorb excess sweat and moisture. Here is what the Lead Consultant at 'Body Wahala consult and co' has to say:

"Stick to light colored fabrics. When you are choosing clothing for a hot day, you should go for fabrics that are light in color. Pastels and colors on the lighter end of the spectrum, such as white, beige, and gray, are all good options as they will absorb less sun than darker colors.

Avoid clothing in dark colors or jewel tones, like emerald, purple, or blue. You should also avoid black clothing, as it will trap light and make you feel more hot in hot weather"

This means that the clothes you're wearing can literally cause you to smell worse throughout the day. Wearing a clothing more than once isn't a good idea also, especially one that has absorbed sweat before. So ditch your heavier wardrobe this hot season in favour of lighter ones and  more breathable fabrics.

Talking about breathable fabrics, you should avoid synthetic clothes, and lingeries. Totally avoid nylon fabrics for the sake of fresh air. Go for cotton and other naturally produced fabrics that will allow fresh air into your body.

Here is what my consultant advised:

"Fabrics like polyester, nylon, and silk may look nice on but they are not breathable materials. They will cause you to sweat and will retain body odors, making your hot weather day that much more uncomfortable. You should also avoid clothing made of rayon or wool, as they are not breathable and will cause you to sweat more than you already are in hot weather.

Silk is also a fabric that repels water, which will create a rippling effect on the fabric when you wear it on a hot, sweaty day. However, if you need to dress up for an event, you may opt for silk over more constricting fabrics like polyester or nylon"

Drink Plenty of Water to clean yourself internally,  begin and end your day with bathing to take care of yourself externally. It is essential to take good care of your body, both internally and externally with water. While you take good care of your skin by bathing with natural cold water, you should also take good care of the internal organs by drinking lots of water. If there is one thing you can do to keep smelling good, it’s to drink water. Water keeps your body running normally, as it relates to helping you smell good because water dilutes scents that may be a little unpleasant — like garlic, onions and coffee breath. Bathing refreshes your whole body, cleans off your stains and makes you stay clear of sweat, and this is the more reason why it shouldn't be done just once a day, especially in this hot weather. A lady menstruating should bathe as many times as possible. It is important that you keep your private area as clean as possible.

You are what you eat, eating lots of fresh food, including fruits, vegetables and clean protein really keeps the body fresh and running smoothly, thus providing the perfect substrate for fragrance.  And the main culprits that'll make you smell include spices, garlic, onion and alcohol.

You also need to take care of your private part. Smelly private parts can amount to a permanent odour overtime because of the shared molecules between your lingerie and your skin, since your lingerie is really close and in direct contact with your skin. Ladies should be at alert because we have a more opened private part compared to our male counterparts. Discharges are healthy because your vagina must be continually moist, but improper care makes your vagina angry and it punishes you by smelling. There are some reasons why our private parts may smell, and there are ways to avoid them, stay tuned as I will be discussing that in my next edition. Infections are common during summer because some micro organisms strive better with heat most especially in private parts, during this period, people develop bacterial and fungus infection as compared with cool weather. Also note that the colour of discharge signifies a lot of things medically.

Avoid wearing any accessories that could be bogging you down. From backpacks to statement necklaces, there are many accessories that help to trap in heat and cause sweat. Over-accessorizing this hot weather could be the reason that you aren't smelling your best. It's tragic and unbelievable, but true!

Lastly, take time to understand yourself and your body. Let me use myself as an example. I love wearing armless and net clothes during this season so as to sweat less, I take my handfan with me wherever I go, I carry my fragrance with me wherever I go. I wear jackets that I can easily remove when I feel uncomfortable, and the list goes on and on. What works for you might be totally different. You might decide to carry a reachable fan with you, but I am not always comfortable doing that except on rare cases, infact, i am trying to incorporate that into my routine and i hope i will get used to it soon. So understand yourself, and this will help you take some necessary decisions as regards your body, since you understand it best. Seek medical help when necessary and you wouldn't regret it.

With these, I will be wrapping up today's edition. I love comments and reviews, do well to drop yours before exiting here, it really means a lot to me. Catch you on our next edition. See you!
